Experience the northern night on an active and relaxing guided walking tour in Oulu with local guide. This 10-kilometre route from the city centre to the seaside area of Nallikari and back is designed for people who enjoy outdoor activities, long walks, and exploring nature in the late evening hours.
This tour is ideal for participants in good physical condition who like spending time outdoors and discovering a city's favourite landmarks and hidden gems in an active way.
We start at the iconic Toripolliisi statue at the Market Square, where we meet before beginning our night adventure. From there, we walk through the charming island district of Pikisaari, known for its old wooden houses, creative atmosphere, and quiet nighttime charm.
The route continues through the beautiful natural landscapes of the Oulu River Delta. Walking along peaceful trails and bridges, you’ll experience the calm atmosphere of northern nature after dark.
Reaching Nallikari, we explore the seaside area and walk on the frozen sea during winter months (usually January–April). We visit the famous Nallikari Lighthouse and enjoy the wide Arctic seascapes under the night sky.
Here we take a relaxing break in a cosy seaside restaurant, where you can warm up with hot drinks and small snacks while enjoying the view of the northern sky. With clear weather, this is also a great moment to watch for the magical Northern Lights.
After the break, we continue our active walk back to the city centre using a different route through the historic Toppila Harbour, once an important ship port of Oulu. Along the way you’ll see harbour landscapes, museum ships, modern apartments, ruins of abandoned factory, and learn about the city’s past history.
The tour finishes back in the city centre after approximately 10 kilometres of enjoyable night walking, combining nature, city history, and Arctic seaside landscapes.
If weather conditions become unsafe, the tour may be cancelled for safety reasons.
