Visit Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II–Birkenau, the most important memorial sites related to the history of the Holocaust and World War II. During the guided tour of Auschwitz I, visitors will pass through the historic gate with the inscription “Arbeit macht frei” and see original brick barracks that now house museum exhibitions presenting the history of deportations, the daily life of prisoners, and authentic belongings taken from victims. The route also includes the courtyard between Blocks 10 and 11 with the Execution Wall, Block 11 known as the “Death Block,” and the first gas chamber and crematorium.
The second part of the visit takes place at Auschwitz II–Birkenau, the largest camp in the complex. Visitors will see the iconic entrance gate and railway ramp where transports of deported people arrived, the remains of prisoners’ barracks, and the ruins of the gas chambers and crematoria.
