This is not a guided tour and there is no end time.
You arrive when you like, go to the beach when you like, eat when you like, and leave when you are ready. Some people come at 8am and are still here at 5pm. Nobody will tap their watch at you.
HOW THE DAY WORKS
Arrive at our floating house in Rach Vem village any time between 8am and 4pm. No fixed departure, no group to wait for. Walk over the 100 m wooden bridge and our staff will welcome you.
Our own two engine speed boat takes you to Starfish Beach, about ten minutes across the bay. The water is shallow and calm, with hundreds of red starfish in the shallows. Stay as long as you want — most people take an hour or two. You get a wristband with our number on it, and when you are ready we come and get you.
Back at the house, lunch or dinner is five seafood dishes cooked by our kitchen: grilled or fried fish, crab fried rice, grilled squid, prawns or crab, and grilled scallops, plus a drink from our menu.
After that, it is up to you. Snorkel for scallops and sea urchins under the house, fish off the pier with our traditional fishing gear, lie in a hammock, or just watch the sun go down over the water. None of it is scheduled. (if the sea is too rough to snorkel we offer a homemade jewellery workshop)
WHY THIS COSTS WHAT IT COSTS
A full-day jeep or kayak tour costs about the same and takes you to five places on somebody else's timetable, with a basic lunch somewhere in the middle. We do two things properly, in one place, on your schedule. Some of our guests stay longer than a full-day tour lasts.
WHOSE HOUSE THIS IS
Three generations of one fishing family live and work here. Our father and uncle still fish these waters. Our mother cooks everything you eat. The fish farms beside the wooden walkway is where we collect the fresh seafood for your lunch/dinner.
BEFORE YOU BOOK
The last stretch of road is red dirt and it is bumpy after rain. We can put you in touch with a driver who will wait for you.
Bring sun cream, a hat, a towel and swimwear. Everything else is here.
Tell us in advance if anyone does not eat seafood and we will try to accommodate. Children six and under come free but we do not provide a meal for them.
May to October the weather can change in a morning. Message us that day and we will tell you honestly whether it is a good day to observe starfish, if it is not, we would rather say so than take your money.
