What you can expect

Travel from Rome to one of the most famous archaeological sites, the incredible ancient city of Pompeii, where you will enjoy a Skip-the-Line access, in a comfortable air-conditioned private coach, entertained all the way by your expert English-speaking tour leader.

The eruption in AD 79 spelled a fiery end for Pompeii, but the catastrophe also almost perfectly preserved the port city under layers of Volcanic ash. Thousands of years later, you can still explore the eerie streets and step inside homes, bathhouses, fast food places and outdoor theatres. As you walk independently, it won’t be difficult to imagine the hustle and bustle of this once-busy port town!

Our day trip doesn’t end here, a short coach ride and a half-mile hike from the car park takes you to the sometimes still-steaming crater of Mt. Vesuvius. Stand at the epicentre of that ancient disaster and feel awe at the utter devastation it must have caused. Then, turn and enjoy the contrast: the crater offers the most stunning view of the sun-drenched Bay of Naples.

In winter and when the Mt. Vesuvius is closed for hiking, your coach will follow the coastline to Naples, the beautiful “city by the bay”. Naples sits in an incredible natural context crowned by Mt. Vesuvius, continental Europe’s only active volcano, the islands of Capri and Ischia, not to mention this ancient city’s baroque domes and architecture.

You’ll have ample free time to walk around the city centre, to take in the atmosphere of this buzzing city, with its iconic Castle Nuovo, also called Maschio Angioino, one of the symbols of the city, the famous Umberto I Gallery, an art deco masterpiece of glass and iron, the monumental Plebiscito Square, where you may want to savour an authentic Neapolitan coffee or some of the delicious local pastries, while watching the world go by.

You can also decide to upgrade and discover the Amalfi Coast instead of Mount Vesuvius. Be amazed by the beauty of the Amalfi Coast as you leisurely drive down to, arguably, the most beautiful seaside village in Italy, Positano. Here you can enjoy free time for an afternoon walk through the local shops, or simply sit back and soak in the views while sipping a limoncello or enjoying a gelato!

The good:The stop in Positano is beautiful. I wish we’d had more time than 1.5 hrs. It made us wish we’d stayed there. Pompeii is so cool! Our guide was funny and informative. Again, I wish we’d had longer than 1.5 hrs there. The bad:The bus ride is LONG, and the drive once you get off the highway is winding and made me very car sick. Be prepared with Dramamine. It took 2.5 hrs to get to a janky gas station/store. Don’t buy a sandwich there. It’s mediocre at best. Pack your own lunch or snacks to bring unless you want to spend all your time in Positano eating lunch. Then you drive another 1.5 hrs to Pompeii. On the way back, we made an unexpected stop at the Limincello factory, interesting but not communicated in the description. This took up extra time. Then we stopped again at the janky gas station which took up more time. We met in the piazza at 6:45 am and got back at 8:30 pm, 30 minutes late. Try the train and rent a car instead for less drive time & more sightseeing time.

Pompeii and Positano were both amazing places to visit. Hosts were great. However there was little time to do anything so if you’re doing this trip pack some food. There were three 15 minute breaks which is just enough time for a big family like us to use the restroom and not enough time to order any food. We didn’t have time to eat until 420 pm in Positano and all the restaurants don’t serve food until 5ish and we only had 1.5hr to see this beautiful town so of course we just ate whatever. We were asked to come back at exactly 540, so with walking time that gave us one hour to go around including eating..then when we promptly got back we waited 30 minutes for the second half of the group because they seem to have used the same mini bus for two groups. Would be best if they had two mini busses to maximize everyone’s time. This time of the year was super traffic so we didn’t get back to Rome until 11pm, waking up at 7 to get ready that’s a 16-17 hour day.

Really enjoyed Positano and Pompeii was a little heart wrenching thinking about the last moment of the those people as they perish. Our guy, Mario, was so funny. Gave the tour an extra level of enjoyment.

Very poor experience. On the way to positano the bus was very hot and the check engine light was on. On the way back the tour guide pushed us into eating pizza on the bus from a friend of his and the bus was even hotter. Ten minutes into the ride back the bus broke down and the driver was arguing with the local road safety aid… additionally he has to pay 500€ to get back to Rome on a taxi because we had a flight to catch out of Rome.
