Join a guided bear watching experience in the forests near Postojna, timed for the best wildlife activity at sunset. The tour lasts 2–4 hours and starts in Postojna approximately two hours before sunset. Our tour holds a Bear‑friendly certificate, meaning we follow responsible wildlife watching practices that respect the animals and their natural habitat.
After a 35-minute drive with our van, you will arrive at a carefully selected bear watching hide in the forest. Each day, we choose the location with the highest chances of observing wildlife, ensuring a safe and responsible experience in nature. Several hides are available, and small mixed groups (up to around 10 people) may share the same observation point.
From the hide, you may observe a variety of wildlife, including foxes, badgers, deers, birds, wild boar and brown bears, in their natural environment. Additionally, the forest is home to the extremely elusive grey wolf and eurasian lynx – but they are very rarely seen, even by experienced rangers. However, please keep in mind that wildlife is unpredictable by nature, and while we maximise your chances by choosing the best location and time, sightings of bears or other animals cannot be guaranteed. The experience requires quiet observation and patience, allowing you to truly connect with the forest. To maintain a peaceful atmosphere and avoid disturbing the animals, we kindly ask that you avoid wearing clothing that rustles or makes sound when moving (such as waterproof jackets, nylon pants, or stiff fabrics).
Throughout the tour, you are accompanied by an experienced local guide and ranger with in-depth knowledge of bear behaviour, forest ecology, and wildlife management in Slovenia. You will learn not only about the animals themselves, but also about the importance of coexistence between humans and wildlife.
The tour ends approximately one to two hours after sunset, when you return safely to Postojna.
This experience is suitable for adults and children aged 8 and above. As it involves 2–4 hours of quiet sitting in an enclosed hide, it is not suitable for younger children.
For families with younger children, this tour is not suitable. We would be happy to offer you our Family Hiking Tour instead – a more active and engaging way to explore nature together.
