What you can expect

Prescott wasn't always the charming little mountain town people think it is.

Before it became a weekend getaway with antique shops and craft cocktails, this was a rough-and-tumble territorial capital full of saloons, ambition, and people who didn't always play by the rules. Some of them, it turns out, never really left.

On this 90-minute guided walk through historic city centre, your guide leads you by haunted landmarks — from the Palace Saloon to the Hassayampa Inn to corners of Whisky Row that most visitors walk right past. You'll hear what happened at the Palace Saloon that Arizona's governor tried to cover up, why the Hotel St. Michael's upper floors run cold on warm nights, and what archaeologists found beneath the Granite Street Car Park that nobody expected. And then there's the Hassayampa Inn — we won't spoil it here, but it's the storey that stays with people long after the tour ends.

Every storey is originally researched by co-founder and local author Susan Johnson. No scripts. No recycled Wikipedia pages. Just real history, told by guides who know these streets and the people who haunt them.

Our guides are trusted, knowledgeable storytellers who customise every tour. They don't recite scripts — they internalize the research, then bring it to life with their own curiosity and storytelling style. That's why every tour is a little different.

This walking tour covers about 1 mile on city centre pavements at a comfortable pace. We don't enter buildings, but trust us: the stories are better from the street, where you can look up at the windows and wonder who's looking back.

Freaky Foot Tours was founded by Susan Johnson and her son Nick. A family-owned company that's been telling Arizona's stories since 2015. Five generations of Arizona roots. Arizona's trusted storytellers.

Your attendance is gravely appreciated.
