Church Square, the historic heart of Pretoria, follows, surrounded by architecture that documents the city's administrative evolution. Cullinan: Where the World's Largest Diamond Was Found
The Cullinan Diamond Mine opened in 1902 and made history in 1905 with the discovery of the Cullinan Diamond, a 3,106-carat rough stone, the largest gem-quality diamond ever found. Several of its cut stones now form part of the British Crown Jewels. The mine remains fully operational today and is the world's primary source of rare blue diamonds.
Your visit begins with a short video presentation covering mine history, geology, and diamond grading. The guided surface tour then takes you across the active operation, where you will observe current extraction techniques and understand the full journey from rough stone to graded gem. A midday lunch stop at your own cost separates the two destinations, giving you time to recharge before the afternoon.
