Start your adventure with a visit to Prison Island, just a half-hour from Stone Town. Famous for its giant tortoises, which have been residing there since 1919 after being brought from Aldabra Seychelles, the island is also a great spot for snorkelling and sunbathing. Once a quarantine station, it later became the site for a prison built by the British in the 1890s, though the prison was never used.
