What you can expect
Begin your journey with pickup in Tirana from your hotel, apartment, or preferred location. After meeting your driver, start the drive towards Berat through the scenic landscapes of central Albania. Pass beautiful hills, villages, olive groves, and countryside views that showcase the authentic Albanian atmosphere outside the capital city.
Arrive in the beautiful UNESCO city of Berat, one of Albania’s oldest and most charming destinations. Berat is famous for its white Ottoman houses built on the hillside, rich history, ancient churches and mosques, stone streets, and stunning panoramic views over the Osum River. The city is divided into several historic quarters, each offering its own unique atmosphere and architecture.
The first stop will be the famous Berat Castle (Kalaja e Beratit), one of the most important historical attractions in Albania. Unlike many castles in Europe, Berat Castle is still inhabited today and functions as a living historic area. Inside the castle walls you will find traditional houses, ancient churches, small local shops, museums, stone streets, and spectacular viewpoints overlooking the entire city.
Walk through the historic stone streets, enjoy panoramic views of Berat, visit Orthodox churches and historic monuments, take photos from the castle viewpoints, and explore the traditional atmosphere of the old fortress. Optional museum visits can also be arranged depending on guest preference and available time. The elevated location of the castle offers some of the most beautiful photo opportunities in Albania.
After exploring the castle, head towards the old town area for lunch. Berat is well known for its traditional Albanian cuisine, fresh local ingredients, homemade dishes, and warm hospitality. Enjoy lunch in one of the traditional restaurants located in the historic areas near the river.
After lunch, continue with a walk through the famous historic areas of Mangalem and Gorica. Known for its iconic Ottoman-style houses built closely on the hillside, Mangalem is the area that gave Berat its nickname “The City of a Thousand Windows.”
Explore traditional architecture, stone-paved streets, historic mosques, small souvenir shops, and scenic viewpoints and photo spots. Located across the Osum River and connected by the historic Gorica Bridge, this peaceful area offers another perspective of the city and incredible panoramic views back towards Mangalem and the castle.
The walk between the two quarters creates a perfect opportunity for photography and experiencing the authentic charm of Berat. Enjoy free time to relax, explore individually, purchase souvenirs, or simply enjoy the atmosphere of this historic city.
