Activity itinerary

Douro River
  • 1h 30m
The journey, which lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes, runs between the mouth of the Douro River and the Infante D. Henrique Bridge. Departing from Douro Marina, this route allows you to observe the riverside areas of the cities of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. A tour that will stay in your memory forever.
Ponte de Dom Luis I
The mythical bridge! Transport and communications architecture, 19th century. 19. Iron bridge, for road, rail and pedestrian traffic, made up of two metallic decks, supported by a large iron arch and five pillars. The decks located at different levels, and with different dimensions, adapting to the riverbanks, allow access to different points in the cities of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia. The entire structure is made up of straight and parabolic beams, filled with other vertical beams supported by others that are crossed or perpendicular. The construction of the bridge played with the deep valley in which it is inserted, through two decks, placed at different heights and lengths. A tour that will stay in your memory forever.
Ponte Infante Dom Henrique
The Infante D. Henrique Bridge was inaugurated on March 30, 2003. Ponte Infante Dom Henrique, also known as Ponte do Infante, is a road bridge that connects Vila Nova de Gaia to Porto, over the Douro River, in Portugal. Named in honour of Infante D. Henrique, born in Porto, it is the most recent bridge connecting Porto and Gaia.
Ponte da Arrabida
Ponte da Arrábida is an arch bridge over the Douro River that connects Porto (through the Arrábida area) to Vila Nova de Gaia (through the Candal junction), in Portugal. Since the 1930s, it was necessary to create alternative connections to the old bridges (D. Maria Pia and D. Luís bridges) in order to respond to the growing flow of road traffic. At the time of its construction in 1963, the bridge had the largest reinforced concrete arch of any bridge in the world. A tour that will stay in your memory forever.
Reserva Natural Estuario do Douro (Pass by)
This nature reserve is the result of an agreement signed in 2007 between the Municipality of Gaia, through the Biological Park, and the Administration of the Ports of Douro and Leixões. The protection of birds and the landscape is its main objective. Throughout the annual cycle, in the Douro River estuary, you can see kingfishers, cormorants, royal herons, white herons, sandpipers, sea turtle doves, plovers, pebbles, gulls of various species, among many other birds. São Paio Bay is a favourite spot for birdwatchers.
Promenade Foz do Douro (Pass by)
The Promenade of Foz do Douro is a space facing the Douro River, where the boats of fishermen, residents in the vicinity, can be found.
Cais De Gaia (Pass by)
Cais de Gaia is a tourist area with terraces, restaurants and bars, located on the left bank of the Douro River, in Vila Nova de Gaia, opposite the historic area of Porto, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Portugal.
Cais da Ribeira (Pass by)
Located right in the historic centre of Porto, Praça da Ribeira, next to the pier with the same name, is one of the oldest squares in the city, already mentioned in royal charters in 1389, although with a different layout from today. It was in this area of Ribeira and in its commercial connection with the Douro River that the city began its rapid development and turned to the river. The narrow and winding streets, overlooking Gaia, the shady arcades, typical houses with colourful facades from other times, its urban-riverside architecture, surrounded by cafes and shops make this one of the main tourist areas of the city. Day and night entertainment, and a cosmopolitan movement give Cais da Ribeira and the entire surrounding area a unique atmosphere of history, tradition, animation and beauty.
Mosteiro da Serra do Pilar (Pass by)
The Monastery of Serra do Pilar was created after the reform of the Order of Augustinians, when the monks of the monastery of Grijó were transferred to the new location. Construction of this new monastery began in 1537, which features a plan consisting of the church, circular in plan, the chancel, rectangular in plan, and the cloister, also circular in plan, all arranged sequentially. It is considered one of the most notable buildings of classical European architecture due to its circular church and cloister. In 1809 the space of the monastery was occupied by Wellington's troops, when the Portuguese army's attack on the city of Porto, then occupied by Napoleon's troops, was planned. During the 20th century, the monastery was the object of several conservation and restoration campaigns and is included in the Historic Centre of Porto, inscribed by Unesco on the World Heritage List.
Alfandega Porto Congress Centre (Pass by)
The Alfândega do Porto Building was built in the second half of the 19th century on what was then Praia de Miragaia, according to a project by the French architect, Jean F.G. Colson. The Alfândega Building is an extensive and rich “territory”, physically and symbolically marked by elements that illustrate its history as a customs space, but also marked by the different “moods” of the Douro River and the successive transformations in terms of commercial relations between Portugal It's the world. Emblematic in the city and an architectural and heritage reference, this 19th century building has an area of 36,800 m2, opening simultaneously to the city of Porto and to the Douro River, in a privileged location that, in addition to its monumentality, gives it particular notoriety among public spaces in the region.
