Elevator Lacerda

We will have a view from the top of the Conceição Hydraulic Lift – which has been on an electrical system for a long time – and in the past popularly called “Parafuso”, it was the first urban lift in the world. When it opened in 1873, it was also the tallest, at 63 metres. It connects Bairro do Comércio to Cidade Alta, in a journey of approximately 20 seconds. That's when there's no queue. So, on party days in that area, be prepared because the lift is used as everyday public transport by those who live in the city.

Monumento da Cruz Caida

The Cathedral is one of the most important sacred buildings in Colonial Brazil, a testimony to the country's history and Catholicism.

Built between the 17th and 18th centuries, the Church and Convent of São Francisco are classified as one of the Seven Wonders of Portuguese Origin in the World and listed by IPHAN. Its 18th century Portuguese tiles reproduce the birth of Saint Francis and are adorned with wooden carvings moulded with gold powder and with Brazilian baroque symbols: leaves, pelicans, flowers, little angels.
