What you can expect

Join us on Fridays for a shared tour or any other day for a private tour.

The hike begins in the traditional village of Monolithos, located on the undeveloped western side of Rhodes. After meeting your certified hiking leader and receiving a short briefing, you’ll start ascending through green slopes shaded by pines and cypress trees, with beautiful views over the Bay of Apollakia.

The trail gradually becomes more demanding as you navigate rocky sections, rewarding you with incredible photo opportunities at every turn. After the most strenuous part of the ascent, the landscape opens into a meadow-like area filled with fragrant herbs and colourful shrubs. Here, you’ll stop at the small historic chapel of Agios Ioannis (St John) to enjoy a traditional Greek snack, including one of the savoury pies Greece is famous for.

From here, the trail continues upward towards the summit. A short rocky scramble marks the final approach, and once you reach the top, the views are nothing short of spectacular. From the summit of Akramitis, you’ll enjoy 360-degree panoramic views over both sides of Rhodes, the lake of Apollakia, inland villages, Mount Attaviros, nearby islands such as Halki, Alimia, and Tilos, and on clear days even Karpathos and the Turkish coastline.

This hike is suitable for hikers with varying experience levels. Your hiking leader will ensure a comfortable pace for everyone, making the journey both safe and enjoyable. In spring, the trail is lined with wildflowers, fragrant herbs, and rare Rhodian orchids, adding even more beauty to the experience.

The descent follows a different route, leading you through a shaded forest of tall pine trees. Thanks to the dense tree cover and refreshing mountain breeze, this hike can be enjoyed even during warmer days. Throughout the tour, your hiking leader shares insights into the area’s nature, geology, and protected status as part of a Natura 2000 region, while capturing photos that are included in the tour.

This hike is perfect for those seeking adventure, tranquility, and a deeper connection with Rhodes’ wild side.
