What you can expect

  • Explore the natural and untouched eastern area of Roatan Island on a guided tour. Combine an eco-mangrove tunnel tour with a Roatan Garifuna cultural tour and a local experience at Punta Gorda community.

Begin with a scenic drive to the east of Roatan Island. Stop at the south hilltop at First Bight village and the Isery Pirate boat for breathtaking ocean views and photo opportunities.

Next, visit the fishing community of Oak Ridge, also known as “The Venice of Roatan.” Board a cultural water taxi and enjoy details and facts from a local captain as you head to the eco-mangrove tunnels, surrounded by pristine turquoise waters.

Continue to the Garifuna village of Punta Gorda, just a few minutes from the Oak Ridge community. Learn about the Garifuna culture and history, including their traditional warrior dance, which is performed by men in costumes and masks.

Enjoy a traditional island-style lunch and a non-alcoholic drink while taking in the ocean views. Sample dishes like Machuca (coconut milk stew, mashed plantain, and fish), Tapado (special preparation with fish and plantain), yucca bread, and an infinity of seafood.

Experience the warmth and hospitality of the Garifuna people, who are known for their colourful dresses and jewellery. Leave with a deeper understanding of the Garifuna culture and a newfound appreciation for the beauty of Roatan Island.
