What you can expect
Leave the tourist trail behind and experience the deeper side of Salalah — where nature, culture, and tradition come together in a half-day journey full of unique encounters.
Your tour begins with a visit to the stunning Sultan Qaboos Mosque, a modern architectural marvel in gleaming white marble. Step inside to admire the intricate Islamic design, peaceful courtyards, and elegant prayer halls. Modest dress is required; women should cover hair, arms, and legs, and men must wear long trousers and sleeved shirts.
“During Ramadan 2026 (approximately 17 February–17 March), mosques in Oman are closed to non-Muslim visitors and tourists, with exterior visits only.”
Another stop on your journey is the traditional Yemeni shop, where shelves are filled with local products such as dates, spices, artisanal coffee, and handcrafted goods. It’s a great opportunity to connect with Yemeni flavours and traditions — and perhaps bring something home with you.
Next Stop: Experience Al Gharif – A Youth-Led Eco-Cultural Oasis.
Discover the Al Gharif Project. This unique experience blends traditional agriculture, local heritage, and modern hospitality in a lush, green setting. As you explore Al Gharif, you’ll walk among rows of banana trees and seasonal vegetable gardens, experiencing the sights, sounds, and scents of the land. Traditional irrigation channels, known as saqiya, gently flow alongside the paths, offering a glimpse into the region’s time-honored farming practices. Then, dive into the fragrant heart of Salalah at the Al Haffa Souq, famous for its centuries-old frankincense trade. Wander among stalls filled with locally harvested incense, handmade perfumes, and colourful Omani crafts. This is more than just shopping — it's a chance to engage with vendors, learn the storey of frankincense, and witness local life in full colour.
Stop by Al Hush Palace, a former sultan’s palace, for exterior views and photo opportunities that highlight its historic façade and royal past.
For those who want a deeper connection with Oman’s natural side, join the optional visit to the newly opened Royal Plantation (Razat Royal Farm) — just opened to the public by royal decree in August 2025. Explore lush agricultural trails, tropical orchards, and traditional farming areas, including Oman’s famous Razat bananas. Entry is just 5 OMR per person.
Your final stop takes place at the edge of Salalah, where the city transitions into open land. Meet camels in their natural surroundings and learn how the region’s landscape, vegetation, and seasonal climate make Salalah well suited for camels. Depending on the season, you may also spot camel calves while your guide explains the cultural importance of camels in daily life around the city.
This tour blends city sights with rural charm, offering a balanced and meaningful look at life in Salalah — past and present, urban and agricultural.
