Join me to observe the birdlife of the Andes on a specialised birdwatching experience at hotspots in San Pedro de Atacama. This experience is designed for travellers who want to go beyond a traditional tourist outing with large groups rushing to the next stop. We will take our time to observe, identify, and photograph birds in the wetlands, grasslands, and salt flats of the high plateau, at an elevation of approximately 13,770 feet (4,200 metres) above sea level.

Accompanied by a local guide, we will visit observation sites selected based on the day's conditions and recent wildlife activity. The peak bird-watching season is mainly in the spring and summer, from September to March; during the rest of the year, it is also possible to spot local native birds.

During the experience, you will have the opportunity to learn about birdwatching and take photographs of the beautiful native wildlife of the Andes. You will also learn about the adaptations of native wildlife to the high altitude, extreme aridity, and fragile ecosystems of the Atacama Desert, gaining an understanding of the important role that birds play in these ecosystems.

This tour offers a respectful approach to nature, at a leisurely pace and with a focus on environmental interpretation. It is ideal for people interested in birds, nature photography, Andean landscapes, and conservation.

We will visit the Tocorpuri River and Wetland, the Putana Wetland, and the Machuca Wetland and Salt Flat.

We will be equipped with professional birdwatching gear, including scopes and binoculars, as well as chairs to spend time observing. Remember that to see birds, we must become part of the silence of nature.
