What you can expect

Depart your hotel in the morning and head to the northern part of Santiago Island. Stop at the community of São Jorge near the island's highest point, Pico D'Antónia.

Continue to the Picos municipality's viewpoint for stunning views. Then, head to the city of Assomada to visit the famous municipal market, known for its vibrant colours (more interesting on Wednesdays and Saturdays).

Next, travel through the community of Engenhos, where runaway slaves once hid from Portuguese colonists. Then meet local families and begin your cooking class, learning to make typical Cape Verdean dishes.

After lunch, visit the oldest tree in Cape Verde, Pé de Poilon, which locals say is over 500 years old.
