What you can expect

  • The guided visit to the Priamàr Monumental Complex takes place in the outdoor areas of the Genoese Fortress, which was built in several stages starting in 1542. Guided by members of the staff of the Civic Archaeological Museum, you will learn the history of this huge military complex, built by destroying the old centre of the medieval city of Savona, and retrace its architectural development. Starting from the Piazza d'Armi del Maschio, the central hub of Genoese military power in Savona, you will learn about the buildings that still overlook this square. The tour will then continue to the moats and ramparts of the Fortress, and you will see some of the most important archaeological sites for understanding the history of the city of Savona before the Genoese conquest, including the excavation of the lost Cathedral.
