Meet your guide near Sendai Station and begin with an easy walk to the AER Observation Terrace, located on the 31st floor of the AER building. From here, enjoy a panoramic view of Sendai’s city lights before exploring the streets below.
After enjoying the night view, continue along Aoba-dori Avenue, one of Sendai’s high streets. With its wide city atmosphere and zelkova trees, this area gives you a calm introduction to Sendai, often called the “City of Trees.” Aoba-dori and Jozenji-dori are both known for their tree-lined scenery, which gives central Sendai a softer and more relaxing atmosphere than many other big city centers.
Next, enter Sendai’s covered shopping arcades, including the lively Ichibancho area. These arcades are an important part of daily life in the city, filled with local restaurants, shops, cafés, and evening crowds. Because many of the arcades are covered, this part of the walk is enjoyable even in light rain. Your guide will introduce the local atmosphere and point out small details that first-time visitors may easily miss on their own.
From the arcade area, continue towards Kokubuncho, Sendai’s famous entertainment district. This tour does not focus on drinking. Instead, enjoy a safe and casual walk through the area’s lights, signs, side streets, restaurants, and evening energy. It is a great way to see how the city changes after dark and where many locals go after work or dinner.
The final part of the tour takes you to Jozenji-dori Avenue, one of Sendai’s most iconic streets. This peaceful, tree-lined boulevard is known as a symbol of Sendai and runs through the centre of the city. At night, the lights, trees, sculptures, and calm atmosphere create a beautiful contrast with the brighter shopping and nightlife areas you visited earlier.
The tour ends near Kotodai Park, Jozenji-dori Avenue, or a nearby subway station, making it easy to continue your evening, find dinner, or return to your hotel.
