What you can expect
Explore the Aurora Museum, the first private museum in Shanghai's Lujiazui financial district. Housed within the Aurora International Building along the Huangpu River, the museum is often referred to as a “cultural treasure box.”
Spanning six floors, the museum integrates collection, research, exhibition, and operation, aiming to “protect, inherit, and contribute” to Chinese culture. Discover ancient Chinese artefacts, many of which were gathered over 40 years by the Aurora Group's founder, Mr. Chen Yung-Tai.
Admire Buddhist sculptures, ranging from early Gandhara sculptures to localized pieces from the Northern Wei, Sui, and Tang dynasties. See jade artefacts, a renowned collection spanning from the Neolithic Age to the Ming and Qing dynasties.
Marvel at blue-and-white porcelain, including Yuan dynasty pieces, official and folk kiln works from the Ming and Qing dynasties, and exported trade porcelain. See pottery figurines, primarily painted figures from the Han and Tang dynasties.
Explore permanent and special themed displays. Visit the Research Centre for Ancient Artefacts, which analyses collections from an archaeological perspective.
Admire the museum's design, created by world-renowned Japanese architect and Pritzker Prize laureate Tadao Ando. His design, inspired by a “jewellery box,” features a minimalist facade with clean geometric lines. The interior is notable for its dramatic interplay of light and shadow, as well as a striking spiral staircase that extends up through the central foyer.
