What you can expect

  • Day 1: Siem Reap – Preah Ang Jub – Kulen Mountain (Lunch, Dinner)

After breakfast, get picked up from your hotel in Siem Reap and head towards Phnom Kulen National Park. Upon arrival at Preah Ang Jub at the foot of Mount Kulen, see a Buddhist temple before following your guide on the trek up the mountain.

Make your way through rainforest and jungle and take in the scenic views as you go. Reach the Valley of a Thousand Lingams and watch the water flowing over the lingams. Continue trekking up until you reach Preah Ang Thom, a Buddhist temple home to a 15-meter statue of Buddha carved out of a huge sandstone block. Afterwards, move on to a waterfall for a refreshing swim. Overnight and camping at local home stay.

Day 2: Exploring Kulen Jungle (Breakfast, Lunch)

After breakfast at your campsite, prepare your stuff and continue another adventure to visit an ancient carving and bas reliefs on the gigantic rock blocks called Peung Tbal, which literally means Mortarlike Rock Block. See carvings about the Hindu legends made during the reign of King Jayavarman II in 802 AD. Enjoy a picnic lunch.

Continue trekking through the tall grass and limestone, across some of the organic farms along the way. Visit Prasat Rong Chen, or Rong Chen Temple, a fascinating and historically important site dating to the 9th century that is anecdotally touted as where the Khmer King Jayavarman II may have made his proclamation as universal monarch of the kingdom and in turn, heralding the beginning of the Devaraja (religious order of the god-king) and the Angkor Era.

Discover the exceptional site of Srash Dumrey, an immense monolith 6-meter-high sandstone of the 10th century. Representing elephants and lions, lost in the dense jungle. Take a small downhill trek through the forest to visit the bat cave, where you can see thousands of bats living in this jungle cave.

Continue your trek along the jungle path, with some waterfall crossings, where you can enjoy and relax by the cool nature of the water and a little swim before you continue to Wat Preh Kral, a contemporary monastery and pagoda located atop the southern edge of Phnom Kulen. The site features several stupas along with the natural wonder of the rocky terrain and extraordinary views over the plains below Phnom Kulen. Watch the sunset and return to the city to finish your tour.
