Escape the city and paddle into the Swedish wilderness. Explore the beautiful Marvikarna lake system in a single kayak and discover one of Södermanland's most scenic paddling destinations. Located just 30-60 minutes from Stockholm by train, bus or car, Marvikarna offers a genuine wilderness experience surprisingly close to the city.
Your self-guided adventure starts and ends in Åkers Styckebruk, where you will receive your kayak and equipment before setting off into the wilderness. Paddle through peaceful rift valley lakes surrounded by forests, dramatic cliffs and unspoiled nature. Some of the lakes reach depths of up to 65 metres, while the surrounding cliffs rise 60–70 metres above the water.
Marvikarna is suitable for both beginners and experienced paddlers. The calm waters and beautiful scenery make it an ideal introduction to kayaking, while the area's rich wildlife and fascinating history offer plenty to discover along the way.
If you're lucky, you may spot large birds of prey, black-throated divers, beavers, otters and even a swimming moose. The area is known for its rich wildlife and peaceful atmosphere, offering a true escape from everyday life.
Along the route, you can also discover traces of the area's long history. Bronze Age burial cairns can still be found in the landscape, Vikings once used these waterways to travel towards Birka, and near Krampan lies what is believed to be Sweden's oldest iron ore mine.
Whether you choose a relaxing day trip or a longer adventure with overnight camping, Marvikarna offers a unique combination of nature, wildlife and history in the heart of the Swedish countryside.
The rental includes a single kayak, paddle, life jacket, spray skirt, storage compartment, rudder and kayak trolley if needed.
