With its calm, crystal-clear waters and the outflow of a small natural stream, Caxadaço retains the almost secret charm of its history: it served as a natural shelter for boats during the Colonial period in Brazil. The site is home to the ruins of the Cândido Mendes prison, now converted into the Prison Museum, as well as rivers, mangrove forests, and preserved beaches. During the lunch stop, you will visit a local restaurant run by former prison workers and hear fascinating stories about the era of the famous prison. The tour concludes on Jorge Grego Island, named after the legend of a privateer who was shipwrecked in the area. Its crystal-clear waters are perfect for snorkelling and observing fish and coral, and, with luck, you might even spot dolphins swimming alongside the boat.
