What you can expect

  • Begin your cultural experience in the heart of Takayama’s old town with a private tea ceremony at Nishisakata, a historic kimono shop on Kamisannomachi Street.

Nishisakata has been in business for over 130 years and continues to share Japanese culture through kimono, traditional crafts, Hida Shunkei lacquerware tea utensils, and English-friendly tea ceremony experiences. In a calm and intimate setting, learn the basic manners of Japanese tea culture, enjoy freshly prepared matcha, and experience the spirit of Japanese hospitality.

After the 20-minute tea ceremony, continue with a 40-minute guided walk through Takayama’s beautifully preserved old town. With a professional local guide, stroll through traditional streets and learn about the town’s history, merchant culture, architecture, local customs, and the cultural background that makes Takayama one of Japan’s most charming historic destinations.

This 60-minute experience is ideal for travellers who want more than a simple sightseeing walk. In just one hour, you can enjoy Japanese tea culture, discover a historic kimono shop, and understand the stories behind Takayama’s old streets.
