What you can expect

  • Dive into the heart of Japanese home-cooked culture with this interactive, kawaii-packed bento-making workshop located right in Shinjuku—Tokyo’s vibrant and accessible centre. Whether you're a food lover, cultural explorer, or content creator, this is the perfect chance to create something truly adorable, delicious, and totally Instagram-worthy.

In this fun-filled, family-friendly class, you’ll learn how to craft your own Character Bento (Kyaraben)—those charming lunch boxes often made by Japanese mums for their kids.
You’ll also get hands-on with the basics of traditional Japanese flavours, from umami-rich dashi to crispy karaage and sweet-savory tamagoyaki.

    What You’ll Do

    1. Make Your Own Dashi (Japanese Soup Stock) from Scratch
Kick things off by learning how to make dashi, the base of almost every Japanese meal. Made from ingredients like kombu (kelp) and katsuobushi (bonito flakes), this savoury broth is key to understanding Japanese taste profiles.

    2. Cook Classic Tamagoyaki: Japan’s Beloved Rolled Omelette
Tamagoyaki is a staple in Japanese lunchboxes—and you'll learn to make it just like Japanese families do. Soft, sweet, and savoury, it’s also the main ingredient in a popular Japanese egg sandwich: the Tamagosando!

    3. Fry Crispy Japanese Karaage (Fried Chicken)
Learn how to marinate and fry juicy bite-sized chicken, seasoned with authentic Japanese flavours. This dish pairs beautifully with rice and is one of the most popular bento items for both kids and adults in Japan.

    4. Create a Colourful, Kawaii Animal-Shaped Character Bento
Bring everything together as you build your own “Kyaraben”. You'll use tools like seaweed punches, cutters, and edible decorations to give your bento personality.
