Admire the effort of one of the longest living species on the planet to ensure its survival. Observe the nesting process of sea turtles on a night tour in Tortuguero, accompanied by a local guide who will explain the process.
Meet your guide and head to the shelter meeting point at the jungle (close to the beach) then meet with the spotters, after, the spotter authorisation we head beach to watch the sea turtles as they lay their eggs, eggs compactation, nest camouflage or to see a turtle returning to the sea. Learn about the actions that are taking place in the world of sea turtles during their nesting season from July 1st to October 31st
Be advised it is possible that we don't get to see a turtle.
You will be allowed to observe 4 of the 7 processes that the turtle performs while nesting on the beach.
These 4 processes are:
1-The laying of eggs.
2- Compaction of the eggs.
3- Camouflage of the nest.
4- Return of the turtle to the sea.
of course we can not promisse you will see all of the process, since it depends on the turtle and she feels.
To OBSERVER a sea turtle nesting she must be relaxed and had arrived about 1 hour earlier, that is the time it takes to a turtle to start the laying of the eggs and that is the ideal time to reach near her and enjoy this unique event. This year, the National Park has implemented significant changes to the system used to allocate schedules, which unfortunately makes it challenging for us to specify or modify the tour time directly through the platform.
how the process now works:
Tour guides are required to pay the park entrance fee (included in the tour price – $7 per person) between 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM. At 5:00 PM, the park holds a lottery to assign beach sectors and time slots to the guides. These assignments are managed entirely by the park, meaning we do not have the ability to select the exact time. However, we will certainly keep our fingers crossed and do everything possible to honour the schedule as close to your expectations as we can.
There are two possible tour slots:
- 8:00 PM Tour – Meeting time: 7:15 PM
- 10:00 PM Tour – Meeting time: 9:15 PM
At the beginning of the season, turtle sightings can be infrequent, and there is even a chance that no turtles will appear. Therefore, the second time slot (10:00 PM), increase the chance to see a sea turtle.
If you are comfortable proceeding with the booking under these conditions – knowing in advance that we cannot guarantee a specific time and that the later slot may improve your chances – we kindly ask you to confirm your acceptance either through this channel or via WhatsApp.
You will receive final confirmation of your tour time via email or WhatsApp from 6pm and ahead
