Start the tour at Toulon Arsenal to delve into the heavy past of Toulon. From the perfect viewpoint, you can appreciate the Toulon Port, together with its majestic naval fleets, in all its glory and relive the history-making battles of the War of the Spanish Succession and the French Revolutionary Wars as well as the aggressive fights between the Allied and Nazi naval forces.

Toulon

At the eastern end of the arsenal silently stands the Old Rope Factory. Dating to the 17th century, the factory founded by the Navy was the witness of the fiercest period of World War II. Take some time to examine its splendid door adorned with magnificent sculptures and intricate carvings, adding to its majestic appearance.

Rue Pierre Semard

Leave the overwhelming sense of history behind and head to the Street Arts where you can get immersed in the enchanting world of art. Back-to-back artistic murals, art galleries, exhibition rooms, and craft boutiques offer strollers an amazing immersive experience. The festive atmosphere and vintage corners of the colourful street make it the most popular spot in Toulon for creative souvenir photos.

Place de la Liberte

Then, visit Liberty Square, the heart of Toulon beating with its vibrant rhythm. The main square of Toulon is surrounded by elegant buildings providing a perfect backdrop to the dramatic 19th-century Fountain of the Federation, boasting beautiful triumphant sculptures. Since being built to commemorate the centennial of the French Revolution in the 19th century, the square has been the main meeting point for locals and tourists alike, and thus the best place for people-watching.

Paroisse Cathédrale Toulon

  • 20m
Next, stop by the oldest monument of Toulon, the 11th-century Notre-Dame-de-la-Seds cathedral. The imposing Romanesque construction, a Historic Monument, dominates the centre of Toulon and adds so much to the ancient beauty of the seaport city. Don’t miss out on your chance to marvel at the exceptionally ornate altar sculpted by Pierre Couget in the Baroque style as well as some other art masterpieces.

Cours Lafayette

  • 20m
Just a stone’s throw away, explore the bustling Cours Lafayette Market, located in the biggest shopping area of Toulon. Browsing through more than 80 colourful booths displaying an amazingly wide range of seasonal local produce and local specialities, such as fruit and vegetables, cheese, fish, and seafood, as well as craft souvenirs and accessories will immerse you into the vibrant maritime culture of the seaport city.

Office of the Port of Toulon Darse Nord Mourillon

  • 20m
At the end of the tour, admire the Port of Toulon, through which Napoleon and his formidable troops marched three centuries ago.
