What you can expect

  • The excursion to the summit craters of Etna is a unique experience that will take you to the heart of the highest active volcano in Europe, amid lunar landscapes, breathtaking views and direct contact with the power of nature.

    Departure is from Rifugio Sapienza, on the south side of Mount Etna, the meeting point with the licensed volcanology guide. After an initial briefing on the itinerary and safety conditions, you will board the Etna cable car, which takes you comfortably up to an altitude of 2,500 metres, already offering stunning views of the lava flows and the Sicilian coast.

    From here, the adventure continues in off-road vehicles that cross a spectacular volcanic environment up to an altitude of 2,850 metres. This stretch allows you to get a close-up look at extinct craters, recent lava flows and a landscape shaped by the latest eruptions.

    Once you reach the starting point of the trek, the hike towards the summit area begins. The route runs over volcanic terrain, black sands and lava cinders, accompanied by the guide who will explain Etna's geological history, its most significant eruptions and the characteristics of the area. The trek leads up to about 3,300 metres, near the summit craters, where you can admire an extraordinary landscape of fumes, intense colours and 360° views ranging from the inland mountains to the sea.

    The descent takes place along an alternative and fascinating route, passing by the striking Barbagallo craters, which offer an additional perspective on Etna's volcanic activity and morphology. This section allows you to enjoy the experience to the fullest, passing through different and always spectacular environments.

    After the downhill trek, you return towards the cable car station and then descend again to Rifugio Sapienza, the final point of the excursion.

    An intense and exciting experience, designed for those who want to discover Etna in all its grandeur, accompanied by expert guides and enhanced by unforgettable views and, on request, drone video footage to take home a truly special souvenir.
