DAY 1:
TRAIN CEMETERY – COLCHANI – UYUNI SALT FLATS – INCAHUASI ISLAND
Your extraordinary 3-day expedition begins at 10:30 a.m. with a departure from Uyuni City in a professional 4x4 WD vehicle. Our first stop is the hauntingly beautiful Train Cemetery, where you can explore and photograph massive steam locomotives from the late 19th and early 20th centuries—the perfect spot for artistic pictures. Next, we visit the small village of Colchani to learn about traditional salt production and browse the charming artisanal market and local museum.
As we enter the vast Uyuni Salt Flats (3,663 m.o.s.l.), covering over 12,000 km², the horizon seems to disappear into the sky. We will stop at the unique “Salt Eyes,” the Salt Hotel-Museum (built entirely of salt blocks), the Dakar Monument, and the iconic Plaza of Flags representing travellers from all over the world. We then head to Incahuasi Island, a volcanic oasis in the middle of the salt sea, famous for its giant cacti and 360-degree panoramic views. To conclude this magical first day, we will enjoy a spectacular sunset on the salt flats accompanied by a celebratory glass of wine. Finally, we arrive at the salt hostel for a delicious dinner and a well-deserved rest.
DAY 2:
CHIGUANA DESERT – ANDEAN LAGOONS – EDUARDO AVAROA RESERVE – RED LAGOON
After a hearty breakfast, we travel south towards the Chiguana Desert, surrounded by majestic volcanoes. We will stop at the Ollague Volcano lookout point to witness its active, smoking crater. Our journey continues through the Altiplano to visit the famous lagoons: Cañapa, Hedionda, and Chiarkota. Here, you will observe numerous flamingos in their natural habitat, surrounded by mineral-rich waters.
Following an exquisite lunch, we cross the Siloli Desert to find the famous “Stone Tree,” a stunning volcanic rock formation. The highlight of the afternoon is the arrival at the breathtaking Red Lagoon (Laguna Colorada), known for its vibrant red waters and thousands of resident flamingos of three varieties: Chilean, James, and Andean. We will spend the night in the community of “Huayllajara,” where we will have dinner and rest.
DAY 3:
GEYSERS SOL DE MAÑANA – POLQUES HOT SPRINGS – GREEN LAGOON – UYUNI
We begin very early to visit the “Sol de Mañana” Geysers to witness intense volcanic activity, fumaroles, and bubbling mud with a smell of sulphur. Next, we head to the Polques Hot Springs to take a relaxing bath in natural thermal waters while overlooking the beautiful Andean landscape.
The expedition continues through the Salvador Dalí Desert, which offers surreal multicoloured rock formations. We then reach the viewpoint of the Green Lagoon and White Lagoon at the foot of the imposing Licancabur Volcano. After lunch, we begin our return journey to Uyuni, passing through scenic bofedales (wetlands) and more unique rocky formations. The tour concludes in Uyuni City between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m..
