The Mutianyu Great Wall is located in Mutianyu Village, Bohai Town, Huairou District, Beijing, China. It is about 70 kilometres away from the centre of Beijing. It takes about 1.5 hours to drive there. The Mutianyu Great Wall has a long history. It was first built during the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty and was supervised and constructed on the site of the Great Wall of the Northern Qi Dynasty. It integrates the construction wisdom of different eras and is a microcosm of the history of Great Wall architecture and the military defence system in China. The Mutianyu Great Wall Scenic Area is characterised by its overlapping mountains and a vegetation coverage rate as high as 96%, making it a natural oxygen bar. The scenery varies with the four seasons. In spring, the mountains are ablaze with flowers; in autumn, the forests are ablaze with colours; and in winter, the Great Wall is covered with snow, resembling a Chinese ink-wash painting.
