Escape the crowds and experience the untouched wilderness of Yala National Park’s Block 5, also known as Weheragala or Galge, a hidden gem where nature thrives in peace. This lesser-known section of Yala offers a more secluded safari experience while still providing the chance to encounter the same incredible wildlife found in the park’s more visited areas.

Begin your journey with a convenient pick-up from your hotel in Tissamaharama, Kirinda, Debarawewa, Weerawila, or Yodhakandiya. Travel in one of the customised safari vehicles, designed for optimal wildlife viewing and comfort. Accompanied by experienced guides, enter Yala National Park through the Galge Entrance, away from the usual crowds.

As you venture into Block 5, traverse a stunning landscape of dense forests, open grasslands, rocky outcrops, and waterholes that serve as lifelines for the park’s wildlife. This part of Yala is less frequented by visitors, making it an ideal choice for those who wish to explore nature without the disturbance of large tourist groups.

Despite being quieter, Block 5 is home to the same magnificent animals found in Yala Block 1. You’ll have a great chance to spot leopards, as this block provides them with ample territory and food sources. Elephants are frequently seen roaming the forested areas and gathering near water sources. You may also encounter sloth bears, crocodiles, spotted deer, wild boars, jackals, and langurs, among many other fascinating species.

Bird enthusiasts will be amazed by the incredible variety of over 200 bird species, including peacocks, eagles, storks, and hornbills. The tranquil atmosphere of Block 5 allows for better birdwatching opportunities, as there is less noise and fewer safari vehicles compared to Block 1.

One of the key advantages of choosing Block 5 (Weheragala/Galge) is the peaceful setting. Unlike Block 1, which can get crowded, this area allows you to enjoy a more intimate and immersive wildlife experience. With fewer vehicles on the trails, animals tend to be less disturbed, increasing your chances of observing them in their natural behaviour.

The guides are highly experienced and knowledgeable about the region, ensuring that your safari is not only exciting but also educational. They will provide insights into animal behaviour, habitat conservation, and the park’s unique ecosystem.

We conduct both morning and evening safaris, as these are the best times for wildlife sightings. Early morning safaris offer cooler temperatures and active predators, while late afternoon safaris provide golden-hour photography opportunities with stunning landscapes as the sun sets over Yala.

During your safari, stop at scenic locations such as riverbanks or open plains, where you can enjoy a short break or have breakfast.
