Architectural house from local wood and stone. Featured garden in Slieve Blooms.

We built the house in 1998 having found a beautiful location in the heart of the Slieve Bloom National Park yet just two miles from the lovely Slieve Bloom Village of Clonaslee with its five lively pubs. Our architect designed our house to maximise on the south facing aspect which looks directly into the mountains and used local materials wherever possible. The upstairs galley is a lovely feature giving a sense of flow and integrated space to the living room. The gardens set on one and a half acres have been our passion, literally transforming it from overgrown grazing spade by spade over 15 years. It now includes a 80 metre stream, sensor lights, 200 metre boardwalk, two firepits over 600 trees and shrubs, raised beds, herbs and two strawberry beds. Being in the heart of Ireland many guests have also enjoyed the opportunity to use it as a base for exploring.

We are in the heart of the Slieve Bloom I Environment Park. There are deer, peregrine falcons, pine martens, badgers, rare toads, a sighting by a guest of a kingfisher by the stream, endangered pipistrel bats and field mice. We keep the home very well maintained and it has been known for a bat to find its way through an open window and field mice are curious. We have never received house calls about deer or peregrine falcons.

We have been welcoming guest for the last seven years and you can view their comments from our guest book on our website.

Weeks stee as y in the slieve bloom
Property was beautifully situated and plenty big enough for 8 people. Lovely setting however the maintenance is poor and the decking area by the stream was dangerous and broken. Cobwebs everywhere on all the windows and cills, guttering had grass growing from it ! The place look tired from our last visit 10 years ago and hadn’t been painted since then. Overall a lovely week away but this let it down.

Bliss
Arrived with family whose ages ranged from 2 to 92! The house is beautiful, the garden is beautiful. The house is very well kitted out with essentials that you may well use during your stay. I worried when I realised there was no TV (I knew there was no Wi-Fi) but we all read a book and/or played board games at night. Data signal was good for phones so could still keep in touch with outside world. I would thoroughly recommend staying in this house if you're looking for a break from everything and you have a car... I would say shop around for rentals, prices can vary immensely, and comparison sites won't always give you the best rate!

Fab place
Close to lots of beautiful walks. Lovely house. No TV no WiFi, but quite liberating. One small thing - no freezer, could really have done with that.

A cosy, spacious and lovely house
We really enjoyed our stay. The house is spacious and cosy and well equipped. Michael was always very helpful and answered all our questions very quickly and gave nice recommendations. The only thing we would have liked to be better is the description of how to find the house. We drove in the dark and it was difficult to follow the description and unfortunately we didn't have the most accurate navigation system either. However, we really enjoyed our stay! Thank you.

Bat cave
First I want to say, this is a beautiful home in the mountains of central Ireland. Ideally located to travel all over the country. The grounds, the gardens, the wee "hobbit House", the tree house and the little creek are all very fun for kids to explore. But, because we do have children I feel the need to warn everyone that there are bats in this house. We discovered this the first night when our 6 year old son brought a toilet roll to us that had a bat inside. It was screeching loudly and flew out of the toilet roll so then we had to trap it and get it outside which took about an hour. Our last morning there we were eating breakfast when all of a sudden a bat swooped down to the table. Again, we had to trap it and get it outside. When we first arrived at the house I noticed a lot of animal droppings on the windowsill. Being in the country, I figured it was mouse droppings. But now I am convinced it is bat droppings. There is one window screen that is covered in what I now know is bat droppings. We contacted the owner the first night about the bat and his response was, "Thank you for your message. The house is in the heart of the Slieve Bloom Conservation area. One of the features of this is that we are surrounded by wildlife.. Pipistrel bats are rare in Ireland and are a protected species here. In that respect we are lucky that they sometimes visit the house and garden over the summer months and can fly in through an open window. Especially at night. I believe they are most active between dusk and dawn." We researched the pipistrel bat and see no evidence of it being protected as it is a very common bat. Also, we did not leave windows open. The owner needs to do some serious cleaning in his attic because this house is not safe for children.

Cosy relaxing break
This house was very charming. We stayed here 3 days to relax and 4 days on business. The grounds were not what they once were but still had lots of nooks and crannies to explore. We enjoyed the peace and quiet but also plenty to do in the area. Our only problem was not being able to time the heating/ hot water system which only mattered on our business days when we were out early and back late. Michael was in touch by phone and very helpful. We're already looking forward to our next stay. Maeve & Seamus

Beautiful house and wonderful garden. A great place to get away.
Woodland song is a very beautiful place to stay. We have stayed in the house for a week in May this year with 4 adults and three little kids. The house itself is quiet big and there is lots of space for everyone. There is so much to discover in the house like the huge collection of various books (thriller, fiction, kids books, etc.) and the different rooms. You can relax in the living room by the beautiful fireplace or sit upstairs in a lounge area. We really loved the garden. It is huge and there is so much to see. There is a pond, a tree house, three bbq area's and a little river which flows through the garden. We have spent lots of hours just wandering through the garden or sitting at the pond. It's also fun to sit and eat in the bbq hut. You could also sleep in the bbq hut but we did not do it this time around. There are so many different flowers and trees, it's really lovely and quiet. In the house is no internet which did not bother us at all because it gave us the perfect opportunity to get away from the daily busyness and just relax and enjoy the time with our friends and kids. We did several day trips to differents sights of ireland like the cliffs of moher, Belvedere gardens, Tullamore, Trim castle, Kilkenny castle and the closest city to Woodlandsong Clonaslee. Latter one, we have walked which is a shorter hike from the house. In Clonaslee you can can find different little pubs, a grocery store and a take out restaurant that serves fish & chips and local food. We had an incredible time at Woodland song and we will definetly try to visit again. The owner of the house is very nice and he helped us whenever we had a question or wanted to know where we should go and what is a must-see in Ireland. There is also a folder in the house with the history of the house, shorter trips and longer trips with various flyer's inside. Ireland is very beautiful and our most incredible trip was to the Cliffs of moher. If you visit Ireland you defintely have to go there. It is amazing.
