The hotel was so historic and beautiful. The room was very large and comfortable. Parking, the check-in process, and the lobby bar and breakfast area were amazing. There was so much to do in the downtown area within walking distance. Great experience!

The ambiance was wonderful , with its early 1900s aesthetic . Real carved solid wood everywhere, Mirrors and paintings, a nice lounge. I posted pictures and immediately got positive responses from friends.The entrances are inviting and the staff very friendly . I come from Fargo-Moorhead where downtown buildings were lost to fire or 'urban renewal'. So nice to see preservation.

This place was a step back in time, in a good way! For the price of a cookie cutter hotel, you get a beautiful piece of history. Room was clean and comfortable, staff was amazing. Sounds like I don't even need to recommend it to my friends - they all knew!

Hotel Winneshiek is beautiful, well maintained and extremely clean. Built in the early 1900's. Lots of charm.

If you come to Decorah, you need to stay at Hotel Winneshiek. It's right in downtown Decorah where the shopping and food is easy to walk to. The hotel may be old but it has a lot of character and much closer than the other hotels/motels. The morning breakfast is great with pre-made croissants with fruit, yogurt, breakfast bars, coffee/tea, etc available. The bar was fun and the staff was personable. We'll come back to Hotel Winneshiek the next time.

The Expedia description is a little off. The “King Executive Suite” is just a bed room with a king bed. Nothing suite or executive about it. Front desk dude blamed Expedia on description. We even asked if we had the correct room. Nothing to complain about. Nice, historic hotel within walking of cute downtown. Very friendly bartender and bar.

Overall just OK Clean, yes, King bed was old and sagged, heating/cooling was impossible to adjust, no restaurant or buffet for breakfast (on a Monday morning). Even if a US president had stayed there before, it was not a pleasant stay.

We have stayed at other hotels in this area, but I really enjoyed staying here. I love the history of this building and am glad someone is willing to preserve it.

I checked in after a long drive and the gentleman at reception greeted me kindly and upgraded my room. The hotel is spotless and very quiet, while being right downtown. Highly recommended in Decorah!

I travel frequently and have stayed in many hotels all over the world. This is only the 2nd hotel I have been in that provided 2 luggage racks in the room! While it may seem like a small thing it always amazes me that hotel rooms made for multiple people only supply one luggage rack, making peole have to balance additional suitcases on desk chairs or window sills. Besides that, this hotel is quiet, beds are comfy, and the location is perfect for exploring Decorah. We had a drink in the hotel bar and it was delicious and the bartender was friendly. We will definitely stay here again when we're in the area.

Pretty but strange
Beautiful hotel with very strange front desk people. They acted like everything was a problem and made it feel like it was my problem, from Check in to checkout. And in the morning I asked if I could print something and the guy said he didn’t know how to do that. I’d need to wait for someone else to come in, but we had to leave for work so it didn’t happen. The beds are squishy and I couldn’t sleep all night. The upside was the bar and the bartender Stacy who was really sweet and lovely!

Elegance in downtown Decorah
I enjoyed my stay at this elegant, historic hotel in the middle of Decorah. My room was clean and everything was in food order. All staff members I dealt with were friendly and helpful.

Very small room. Desk was same as lounge table with basic kitchen table chairs. Bed sagged badly towards middle. Very clean room and hotel. Breakfast options very very limited: 3 cold cereals, prepackaged muffins and granola bars. Certainly for the price you’d expect a lot more from this hotel

It was great, the bathroom door just had some unknown residue that could be seen and could have been cleaned more thoroughly. Otherwise great trip.
