"overall the building was lovely reception stunning staff efficient room was lovely absolutely sufficient quiet setting in a village room iron and board trouser press fan safe and small fridge which was a god send we didn’t use the pool or sauna lots of building work going on all around. 3 complaints my daughter paid extra for a bigger bed the bases were separate as were the mattresses nothing to hold them together so kept coming apart thru the night sheets didn’t fit the bed properly soon as you...

"Great spa facilities. Quiet lication to catch up with rest and also the building was not noisy in the bed areas. Loved the policy to be able to breakfast in the hotel dressing gowns or one's sports wear.The gardens made it for us. Very botanical with lots to spot and history. Great walks just beyond the gardens if you wish to walk off the calories! Dinner menu wasn't great so we ate out each night, including one at the very good Bangladeshi/Indian restaurant in the village. Breakfast was ample...

"A historical hotel from 1400 with large rooms , staff who all care about their job and the place they work, reasonable rates, tasty breakfast and a 100s of years old ghost to go with it . Hidden secret in Colchester in the middle of town, would definitely come back !"

"It was perfect for the lone female business self employed traveller and had everything I needed , fridge, microwave. These were a godsend. Only thing I would change is the height of the basin and mirror in the bathroom . I’m a average height female at 5’ 4” and the basin and mirror are set at a 6’2” male I’m sure lol apart from that all good would definitely stay again :) "

"Staff nice. Bar and breakfast area good. Rooms a bit dated and bathrooms need a tidy up but overall for money good value. Breakfast was cooked on request and was excellent. Prob one of the best I have had in a hotel. "
