About this property

Entire place

You'll have the entire home to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

Casa Azul Cazorla - Sleeps 8 in Parque Natural Sierras de Cazorla,

A simple, traditional, Andalucian former olive growers cottage in a beautiful location in the south of the Parque Natural de Sierra Cazorla. Set in its own olive grove below the mountains, Casa Azul is a place to escape the city and relax in the natural surroundings of rural Spain. Sleeping 8 it's full of character, quirky charm and style. Great for sports enthusiasts with hiking, cycling and horse riding on your doorstep, or go explore some of the many beautiful historic towns nearby - Ubeda ( 1 hour), Baeza (1 hour), Cazorla ( 1 hr 15), Castril ( 30 minutes).
The house is located in the tiny village of Aldea de Cuenca. Hinojares is 5 km away and Pozo Alcom 10 km. Aldea de Cuenca is a traditional farming village - very quiet with friendly locals who like a chat. They are mostly olive farmers but there are some livestock too and if you're lucky you'll hear the sound of the bells on the sheep and goats as they graze on the mountain slopes behind the house. Its also a great place for watching wildlife; Griffon Vulture and Golden Eagle will soar high above you on the mountain face while lower down in the olive groves the Hoopee Bird will go about his daily business.

The old property is simply furnished in keeping with its history. In winter it is heated by two woodburners and electric heaters while the thick stone walls, small windows and mountain location means it maintains a reasonable temperature during the hot summer months.

The accommodation consists of the following:

Ground Floor:

Open plan lounge/kitchen/diner with;
Sofa, TV, wood burning stove
Dining table for 8
Well equipped kitchen
5 ring gas hob and oven, large fridge freezer, dishwasher, granite worktop

Moroccan "snug" with sofa - a small room where you can escape the hustle and bustle of the kitchen/lounge. Great for a bit of peace and quiet!

"The Boot Room" - an entrance room with antique wood burning stove

Utility Room with washing machine, sink, iron and drying rack.

Bathroom - with shower, basin and wc

Upstairs:
Bedroom 1 - double bed with ensuite shower room,
Bedroom 2 - 4 x single beds
Bedroom 3 - 2 x single beds

Outside:
Parking for 4+ cars
Stone terrace with inbuilt BBQ
Terraced olive grove and fruit trees
Dining table and chairs for 6
4 x lounge chairs

The place is your own for the duration of your stay so along with the entire house you've got the outside terrace and olive grove to call home. This is not a holiday complex, it is, and feels like a real home.

Things to Note:
Dogs are welcome although the terrace and garden is not fenced.
The stairs are steep and uneven. They may not be suitable if you have mobility issues. There is an "open" area at the top of the stairs. Very young children must be supervised in this area.

Such a unique property!
This property is really unique. The location is wonderful and it is an authentic cottage that has been redone. As such, there are some quirky aspects that I really didn't pay attention to when we booked. The location is near hiking trails and villages. We loved visiting Castril (30 min) and Cazorla (70 min). Cazorla has a big supermarket which was great for provisioning. The patio space and view were great. The location is incredibly quiet! The kitchen is very nicely done but was not fully stocked (no baking sheets, very few glasses, not enough kitchen towels, needs a coffee machine of some sort). The bathrooms were re-done and very nice. The master bath would be fine in warm weather but there is no curtain so the water got everywhere and it was cold! The first floor bath was better. The biggest issue for us was that we stayed over Christmas and it was cold, and because the electrical service could not (yet?) handle the load, we couldn't run the electric heaters upstairs and relied on the heated bed pads and the wood stoves. We also couldn't run the dishwasher and the hot water heater, or the TV and the dishwasher at the same time. This is a problem that the owner is working on, so it may not be a problem down the road. Overall, we would stay again but not in the winter!

Off the Beaten Track
This is a great base for exploring a fascinating area. The gateway to both the Cazorla and Castril Parks, it offers lots of opportunity to discover the treasures of the region. We most enjoyed returning to the house in the evening after a long day of walking or driving somewhere like the Barosa valley beyond Cazorla or the gorge at Castril and sitting on the patio enjoying a cold drink. The host was very responsive to any queries we had while there.

What a fabulous place!!
We stayed here for a few days whilst exploring inland Spain and it certainly didn't disappoint. We loved it. The house has a certain charm about it, yet it has all the modern comforts we wanted. It wasnt dark and dreary like many of the places we've stayed in Spain. The setting below the mountain was spectacular but it was still convenient for getting into Pozo Alcon when we needed to get anything or go out to eat. The house is well equipped and the beds very comfortable. It was cold at night...bring plenty of warm clothes if you come in winter but once the fires were going it was nice and cosy. We'd definitely come back again, without a shadow of a doubt.

Recomendable.
