All good, brilliant place and hotel with great food, and facilities. But we needed access to a firstr aid box one evening and not a single one could be found across the entire hotel. I ended up getting what I needed for an open bar in the town. This needs to be fixed.

We loved our stay here. We didn’t like the first room that they provided us. As it was just few steps away from the pool and you could smell the chlorine while inside and it wasn’t the quiet area obviously! And very exposed. Anyway, we contacted the reception and they kindly changed our room. We didn’t have the best view but better than the 1st one. The rooms don’t have ACs, we asked for a fan which was better than nothing. The room had a nice compact kitchen including fridge, cooking hob and kettle. The bathroom is good. Beds are comfortable but I forgot to ask beforehand for double bed instead of 2 single beds. The staff are very nice, kind and professional. Indoor swimming pool didn’t have a good air ventilation. It would’ve been better to have a nice fresh air down there. Outdoor Swimming pool is a bit small comparing to the size of the complex and the number of guests. Breakfast was good and fresh. Very nice cakes and different types of cheese. The coffee wasn’t good though. The area is absolutely gorgeous. We loved walking around checking the plants and trees and seeing all the butterflies, lizards and bees with the see view. It’s easy to take bus and go to Funchal city centre. However I think if you want to see more of the island in north, you need to hire car. Taxis and Bolt works good there. Bolt is cheeper though. We chose October for our trip as we thought it would be a bit cooler but was hot. We definitely recommend this place.

Would not stay at this hotel again
It was really uncomfortable to stay in a hotel room without air conditioner. I wished I realized it when I booked the reservation. Tried to change to a different hotel but wasn’t allowed. And since I had paid for the room in advance I had no other option but to stay.

I love and would return to this hotel every time. The property is absolutely stunning, the pictures do not do justice. The staff at the reception and throughout the property extremely friendly. The only mishap I had was at the main restaurant during breakfast where one of the waitresses thought it would be ok to harass someone while eating to pay immediately. Otherwise it was spectacular.

One of our best stays ever. Canico the best place to stay and this place is the best place in Canico although the room we has was dated. An one the room stole a KitKat - strange but true. Ground and garden are truely extra-ordinary and amazing. Restaurants are amazing and th staff and mostly amazing.

Tropical feel with nice people
The staff was super nice, the studio beautiful and useful, clean and nice. Supermarket and bakery next door, as well as some restaurants. The plants and flowers in the hotel are just amazing, like living in a botanical garden. Would definitely repeat if I come back to Madeira.

It was a shane that La Perla was not open. I think the Siddartha bar could serve light snacks in the evening as well as during the day. Otherwise our stst was a total delight from every point of view. Our grateful thanks to the splendid staff and of course the garden is a work of art!

It was a lovely room and we loved every minutes of our stay there. The only thing was that the toilet was a nuisance as we had to flush at least twice and rather uncomfortable to sit, and also the hair dryer was useless.

Overall very enjoyable and relaxing. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The premises are kept clean and well maintained. The pool, bars and restaurants are all well positioned and popular. Very useful free daily minibus to Funchal The downside was the cost of "extras". You are charged for parking, the hire of a lock for the room safe and the use of the Spa.

Quinta Splendida Wellness & Botanical Garden
Stayed at this resort for a little over a week in August 2018 in one of the rooms associated with the Spa. Standards are high, gardens are very pleasant and looked after on a daily basis. They grow their own veg on site. The room was huge, but was also far to hot and impossible to cool down. There is no air conditioning at this location which is odd for somewhere claiming 4* accommodation. The Galleria restaurant offers buffet or a la carte menus. Food was above average. The location like much of Madeira is on a hill. If you have mobility problems, there are steps in many locations, the site can be accessed on a path that extends from the top to the bottom, the equivalent of approx 3-4 flights of stairs. So going down the hill is easy, but going up, a little tougher. You get one tea bag each on your first day. It never gets replaced. If you want tea each morning you need to go out and buy a pack of tea bags and milk! Car parking is a challenge. There is not sufficient car parking and if you return after 6pm it is unlikely you can park on the premises. Additional Parking is close by in an underground car park. The Spa left something to be desired. Small and adequate, but nothing outstanding. The welcome in the Spa for the one day we used it was quite cool and admonishing because we bought the wrong towel. Smart restaurant operates 3 days a week. Expensive, but very high standard. Restaurant staff in all areas very courteous and polite. WiFi was not great.

An outstanding hotel, really fantastic. We had a beautiful suite with a stunning view and the staff were very friendly. Swimming each morning before breakfast was great. We also thought the staff were very helpful. An improvement could be better wifi throughout the hotel.

Quiet restful hotel
stayed with pensioner mother and wanted a quiet place with easy access to shower etc. The room was ground floor garden studio, with shower grab rails and alarm cord fitted. The nights could be a little chilly, but extra duvet and blankets were already in the room although I didn't use them. The evenings, despite there being entertainment at the far end of the complex, couldn't be heard in our rooms, so a good sleep each night. All the staff less one receptionist were exceptionally polite and helpful. (the other 3 reception staff were excellent.) The outdoor pool (1st week Feb), was a bit nippy but bearable, and the gardens lovely to walk in. The indoor pool wasn't very easy to access by an elderly person with stiff joints and the entrance to the spa is down very steep steps and a slippery sloping floor towards the pool area, so not suitable for those with restricted balance or mobility. The hotel has a free shuttle bus twice daily into Funchal to a central location.

Lovely destination in Madeira
This was probably one of the nicest hotels that we have experienced in Madeira in 5 visits during the last 10 years. From beginning to end we were treated with courtesy by all members of staff. Our apartment had great sea and mountain views and overlooked the spectacular well maintained gardens. It was spacious and comfortable with an excellent balcony. The restaurants were first class and the service in the bar was great. The bar manager was very friendly and welcoming and is a great asset to the resort. The nearby town of Canico has a superb supermarket with all items keenly priced and also has a very friendly and helpful manager. We visited one of the several restauarants and enjoyed an excellent meal with great service. If you like nice cakes and bread visit the bakery next to the supermarket...top quality. Even the weather was great apart from a couple of showers towards the end of our week. Very happy to recommend Quinta Splendida.

Comfortable hotel well positioned for getting
The hotel is located near a supermarket and local bustop, small shopping centre and post office as well as some small restaurants-makes it so very easy to get around . The hotel is so relaxing, the surroundings clean and well maintained. The flora and botanical garden, coupled with the stunning views of the sea at every turn was truly a fabulous experience. The spa is excellent bought a one day pass on my last day, only 19€ - well chilled on my return! Oh yes and the cocktails are brilliant and the service excellent! Will return again!

Fabulous Hotel In Stunning Botanical Gardens
The hotel is situated in Canico a quiet village half way between the airport and Funchal, perfect for relaxation. The staff were friendly and helpful, especially as my suitcase did not arrive with me. There was a good choice of food, the Thai meals were the best. With a supermarket two minutes walk from the hotel you can take food to your room which has a well equipped kitchen. If you want to be away from the Funchal crowds this is the ideal place to stay!

Beautiful hotel with Fantstic Gardens
This hotel is perfect for either an adult hotel stay or a self catering holiday. Plenty of food and refreshments available on the complex and lovely restaurants nearby with local supermarkets for self catering. Perfect transport links for getting into the capital Funchal and very reasonable cost if you stick to the buses. Taxis become very expensive.

3rd time and still wanting for more
This is my 3rd time to visit Splendita, this time I took my parents with me. They have deep love for gardens and they needed a holiday in warm weather, so I suggested this place. They really loved the setting of the hotel, and how friendly staff was, and how nice the room was. We stayed in garden studios this time, and had a lovely court yard view just above the swimming pool (i.e. great wifi connection, yay for me!). The room was rather freshly renovated and spacious and bright. All kitchen stuff was there with modern cooker so we made breakfast everyday. The supermarket nearby re-opened recently and had pretty good range of food etc. (they even had fresh milk!) though we still shopped in the large supermarket on top of the hill. Hotel is great for relaxing but my mother wanted to use gym and was delighted to find bicycle machine in the pool room and she could use it for free. My father enjoyed the game of pool, too. We had dinner in La Perla, the seafood restaurant within hotel, and very much enjoyed the course menu accompanied with wines. Service there was immaculate. I love the spa there, too. Had the best massage ever followed by relaxing facial, came out feeling like a million dollars!! A few, very minor negatives; They have ants. They always have them no matter which room you stay. DO make sure to put away ANY food from the worktop! They have no mug cups there. (I always bring one with me.)

An excellent stay
Our stay in March was spent at this excellent hotel, staff were friendly and courteous ,food was of a very high standard and as we used the buffet rather than A La Carte there was always more than enough choice and quantity. We booked a 'side sea view studio' but were given a central studio with direct views over the pool and gardens of the sea, it comprised 3 rooms, a large comfortable lounge large bedroom and sizeable bathroom with a kitchen diner in the lounge area. The gardens require special note as they are so beautiful and well kept, the overall design of the hotel kept the buildings integrated with the gardens to give pleasant and unspoilt garden.We would recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to visit Madiera.There is a bus stop 100 yards from the hotel where a 2.2euro ride to Funchal can be taken about every 45mins.

Beautiful hotel
We had a good time at the Quinta Splendida. It is a stunning place, set in an amazing botanic garden. Amazing views, amazing pool, staff were helpful. Most of the breakfast was really nice, with quite good coffee, unusual fruits and delicious home baked cakes. It is very private and a rather special place. Where it could improve; the beds were really hard, no doubles only twins; we had a child with us and were put in rooms that were in the garden and fairly far apart which was quite frightening for my son. The hotel was very full of rather dour Swiss Germans, one of whom without fail stood outside our room shouting in German every morning at 6.45am. Not the hotel's fault, but tricky nonetheless. Breakfast was of varied quality and 14 euros each - make sure you get included. We had a really poor quality and expensive dinner in one of the hotel restaurants. My partner's scabbard fish with hazelnuts, actually turned out to be scabbard fish with sour fruit of some description and didn't work at all. My gilt headed bream was rather tough. The gym was not very well maintained and there was a much better gym in the spa but you had to 10 - 19 euros extra to use it. We went in February and I don't know if we were unlucky with the weather but it was quite cold and often blowing a gale. Luckily we had wet suits, so could still enjoy the pool.

Great stay in a botanical garden
We went to Madeira for a week off-season. The hotel and the island are nicely quit off-season. The botanical garden is beautiful and a nice tease for the beauty of the rest of the island. We had a great stay with a mixture of relaxing, hiking in the mountains and along the coast, sunshine and good food and Madeira wine.

Nothing like the description.
The description of this hotel is very misleading. It boasts 5 restaurants, however, one is a bar, that does not serve food, one is a poolside bar that closes at 2:30pm, one is a buffet, and the other two, a fine dining restaurant, that was actually our worst meal, and a Thai restaurant, that was delicious. However, the restaurants alternate between nights they are open. The room we booked, a small apartment with a kitchen was incredibly outdated and dirty and rough around the edges. We decided to upgrade to one of their new spa suites which was oddly designed, and a bit spooky. The sound of dogs barking begin early in the morning and continued for hours, and house keeping failed to replenish necessities. Overall, the hotel seemed cold and unfriendly and much like a ghost town. The pool and surrounding area is quite beautiful, but there are not several trails to walk on, and I am still unsure as to why this is considered a wellness retreat. Highly recommend staying in Funchal for the ultimate and most enjoyable trip to Funchal.

I'd just go to Madeira for this hotel.
I love this place!! The hotel is set in the middle of a well maintained botanical garden, and is always filled with flowers, and truly beautiful. It has everything you need for relaxing, peaceful holiday, and staffs are always friendly and helpful. Hotel itself is a little on the old side but is nicely kept and you are guaranteed to have a pleasant stay there. We have stayed at Quinta Splendida Wellness & Botanical Garden for much needed holiday + my birthday. We stayed there for just over a week, for total relaxation and maybe to catch a little sun. I had stayed there on my own previously and really loved the setting and the spa, and insisted that my partner would join me this time. We have booked double occupancy apartment, which came with a large lounge, kitchenette and balcony. Kitchen facility is a MUST for me, as I like to cook light breakfast/lunch so we can go out and enjoy local cuisine for dinner. There is a large supermarket nearby, too. We weren't expecting any wifi access from the room, which is not part of the room, but we could sort of catch it if we stand on the balcony, so we were quite pleased. Hotel gave us a nice treat for my birthday extra when we booked to dine at La Perla, the food was fab, too. We were rained in quite a bit during our stay but were happy to find a pool table and a mini-gym that were free of charge. We also enjoyed our visit to spa, the treatments are not cheap but are really good, and facilities are small but cosy and relaxing.

Beautiful setting, fabulous gardens
Stunning gardens, very well laid out so hotel rooms are low rise so doesn't feel like staying at huge hotel. Staff very friendly and helpful. We were there over Christmas so hotel not full so the bars etc were quite empty. Ate out in Canico - small but ok. Fab bakery/coffee house next to hotel where we went for breakfast most days. Also get the bus into Funchal (goes every hour) by the bakery. Overall hotel was fabulous, Canico a bit quiet

We could enjoy a lot of flowers and greens in the huge garden of the hotel. The staff are really kind and warm in particular for kids. We had a reaally good holidays in this hotel.

Enchanting and relaxing :)
I only went over to Madeira for the equivalent of a long weekend, so I didn't plan to do much - just relax in the hotel and its grounds. For a short stay like this is absolutely perfect because you can really unwind - walk around the garden, smelling the flowers and looking at all the unusual trees and plants. Then there is the pool of course, which I didn't find so cold - if you ease yourself in, bit by bit! Then there are the beautiful views and the just fantastic spa, which is lovely and treatments very good. I liked that you are offered a choice of tea after your treatment and you then get to drink it reclining on a lounger out on their terrace overlooking the ocean! Just having a little apartment with the garden just outside, and a little terrace in front of it was lovely. I travelled alone but you feel totally safe there and it has everything you need. Canico too is a great little place with a good supermarket, pharmacy, bakery (next door), bank machines etc. The staff are really, really helpful and will provide any assistance or anything you need very promptly. Lots of cats wander about, particularly in the outside restaurant, but they are no bother unless you care to feed them (which is what they want!). They will suddenly appear and then disappear but are friendly.

Nice hotel on side of a hill
Hotel is nice with extensive botanical gardens but it is on a slope which would make it difficult to negotiate if a person has a walking problem. If you like walking there is no nice flat place to walk as the whole area is on a downward slope towards the cliffs so you are either walking uphill or downhill. There is nothing outside the hotel except a few shops so no points of immediate interest. If you want a few weeks of relaxation around the pool in the sun and nothing else, then this is the hotel for you. P.S Breakfast cost 14 euro each and its cheaper to go to a bakery just outside the hotel where you can get a filled croissant and coffee for 2.20 euro.

Apartment rooms in Tropical Garden
This is an unbelievable hotel, with excellent apartments located in what is in effect a botanical garden. I've seen no pictures on the web, nor been able to take any myself, that really do the place justice. But it is absolutely wonderful, and beautifully peaceful. We will certainly go back.
