We stayed 2 nights. The view of Maldon quay from our room was excellent. Breakfast was fantastic. The staff were lovely. We felt the hotel would benefit from an update if possible as access to the upetairs bedrooms is appalling, through part of the kifchen which also disperses kitchen smells upstairs. The stairs are also very steep. Bedroom flooring (old lino) needs replacing as did the bed and headboard. The bathroom has been reburbished and was fine. Our room had air con which we didn't need. Parking in Maldon is difficult. Hotel location excellent.

Breakfast and staff service were good, unfortunately everything else was terrible. Management forgot to tell kitchen there were guests on arrival date, so kitchen closed early and had to go to fish and chip shop. Room was very poor. White wall were obviously dirty in places and someone had painted over matt white white patches of silk white. Door lock wouldn’t work properly. Handle on “bathroom “ door was held on by a 3cm wood screw that stuck out by probably 2.75cm. Bare timber and mastic all around base of shower cubicle as plastic gone from base leaving at least 30cm by 20cm hole with bare plastic pipes. Dirty brown smears on toilet door frame. Wall behind toilet cystern and also near toilet roll dirty. Brackets to hold clothes rack and draw unit to walls pulled out of wall. But worst of all, black painted cupboards behind entrance door had loads of paint coming off and had a mirror hanging off the top cupboard door. When I opened the cupboards to put in cases as room was so small, they were literally filled with broken pieces of plaster board and an old sink. Unfortunately we had nowhere else to go and no time available to hunt for an alternative. Thankfully we were only in the room when we were asleep and staff and breakfast were good. Told food staff about the poor the room, they said they knew and were sorry and had told the owner in the past, but he doesn’t care. Maldon is a lovely place and worth a visit, boat trips excellent, park is great, but stay somewhere else.

The assistant manager was great & helpful. a new stater also gave very good customer service. The food and cocktail I had was delicious. Good Wi-Fi. Nice location. Room had lots of amenities. Bed was firm. Room warm. Pretty clean. Downsides, the place shared a name with another pub local - make sure to put in post code. It seems like the property has two names. As a solo female traveler perhaps I am more fussy than most but - parking isn’t guaranteed / offered by the bnb. The rooms are accessed via a staff area and it just feels a bit awkward. The room I stayed in (number 4) had a “private” bathroom, separate to the bedroom. There was a funny smell by the bedroom door in particular. I don’t like rooms that have windows that could be accessed or easily peered in from outside and this one while on the first floor, had roof access outside. I felt like the room wasn’t fully secure with a panel that looks like it could be accessed somehow. The private bathroom door is difficult to lock. In the morning I left at 8am and no one around, exit was via a marquee-overall the place is a struggle to get around with multiple bags and not somewhere I’d recommend for people with mobility challenges. Overall- I’m fussy but I would visit there again for the customer service and food, but wouldn’t stay as first choice.
