Quiet and relaxing
We stayed for 2 weeks last year and 3 weeks this time. We have already asked for 4 weeks next year! Neither fashionable nor modern (the refrigerator is vintage 1970), it is the quiet respite we love and the location for daily drives and coffee looking out at Clew Bay. The housekeeper has made a huge difference in its upkeep, treated us as “her wee Americans” and gave us fabulous ideas for things to do, including Clew Bay Charters. We will count the days until we return.

Spacious and cozy with a beautiful view
Our family of 5 stayed for a little over a week over the Christmas holiday. When we arrived there was a lovely welcome package awaiting us, all necessities were laid out and the home was cozy and warm. It was a wonderful way to start our stay in a gorgeous corner of Ireland. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen equipped with everything one could need, including non-perishables in abundance, and if the weather had been more clement, we would have taken advantage of the outdoor patio and large yards. With two living rooms and plenty of comfortable seating, everyone had space to read or relax after hikes in the region. We would definitely stay here again as it is a great launching spot for walks in both South and North Mayo and the cities of Newport and Westport are both well-worth visiting.

At Home in County Mayo
We thoroughly enjoyed our two week stay at the house near Newport in County Mayo. The house was very clean and well equipped. We could have easily stayed there on a long term basis. Contact with the owner and with the local manager was excellent. The location was beautiful on Clew Bay and there were numerous activities and walks in the local area, with the Wild Atlantic Way, Achill Island and Nephin National Park close by. The towns of Westport and Castlebar were a short drive away and had excellent shopping and dining options. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to others.

It is spacious and has a great view and comfortable beds. But it is tired, dated and in need of a good spring clean. Never-the-less we enjoyed our trip once we got the new internet number and hot water arranged. Devins i good place to eat.

Nice property but with shortcomings
Fitst impression when entering was a musty smell. We also had issues with the front door lock. We had no hot tap water. The "caretaker" whilst "resetting" the hot water appeared non plus, couldnt wait to leave and didn't explain the procedure when a couple of days later we had no hot water again. Glasses needed washing before use as one of the cupboards smelt of Deep Heat: for some reason glass was kept in the same cupboard as medicines

Loved it!
Our grandparents grew up in the area and it was really good to stay where they breathed the same aur right there on Clew Bay. We even heard that our ancestors once owned the property where the house is. We really enjoyed it and hope to be back soon.

The house was well appointed, two comfortable living rooms, one with a sea view and one with a fireplace. The kitchen had everything we needed, along with lots of staples that were free for us to use. This is a great location from which to explore the beauty of County Mayo!

Loved our stay!
We loved every minute. The view from the front looking out in the bay was spectacular. And the green pasture in the back was beautiful. We had so much fun watching the sheep. I have cousins in County Mayo, and we had plenty of room to have them over for craic (Irish fun) after meeting them for dinner. We didn't use the kitchen a lot but easily could have as it had everything we would have needed. Mary, who takes care of the place, kindly left us bread, butter, cheese, milk and eggs to start us off. We really enjoyed Nevin's pub and restaurant nearby--went there several times. The little town of Newport is great, as is Mulranny. A real treat for me was running on the little traffic-free roads in the neighborhood. The house was all very clean. It took us a while to figure out the heat system, but once we did it was good. I highly recommend this place and look forward to coming back.

Great location, quiet setting, lots of space with 2 sitting rooms . Only issue was finding the turn off N59 as sign for Castle was facing driving from Achill not from Westport. Would book again if traveling thru the area.

Delightful homely house by the coast
We loved our stay in Rockfleet - we felt at home from the first night. A thoughtful welcome pack was waiting for us and the heating was on. The cupboards were well stocked with essentials and kitchen utensils. There were jigsaws, books, dvds and outdoor equipment in the house. Bedrooms were comfortable. The views were spectacular- both on sunny days and stormy ones. If we need a home from home in Newport

Tranquil bayside stay in Mayo
Comfortable property in excellent scenic location on Clew Bay with convenient distances by car to nearby shopping dining attractions etc The effort that went into modernizing the main full bathroom can be put into the 2nd bathroom to make it more useful esp the showerhead. Kitchen is well equipped and can be even better with some cosmetic upgrades such as a new sink All in all a practical house for a tranquil stay

Great stay!
We had a wonderful week here. The location of the house is fantastic, very tranquil overlooking Clew Bay and a lovely stroll down to the pier. The house is also very well situated for visiting other parts of Co. Mayo, we visited Achill, Mulranny, Westport, Croagh Patrick, Furnace lakes, all within easy reach. The house was very clean and very spacious, even more so than it appears on the photos. It is also really well equipped, and has v good wifi and two TV areas, including a Smart TV which is very handy. We had a great, relaxing week and would love to go back!

Home from home
From the moment we stepped in the front door I knew we had made an excellent choice in booking Ivor’s house. The house was homely, spacious, cosy and full of light. When I asked Mary what I needed to bring she said “ Come and see . Everything is here that you’ll need and I’ll have bread ,milk and butter etc in for you” It was a lovely touch. The view out the bedroom window was breathtaking…. looking out on the water. It was the perfect location for cycling the Greenway which was magnificent and Newport was only 5 minutes away. Excellent location….top class restaurants on your doorstep. Many thanks to Mary for a warm welcome and guided tour. We’ll be back!

great stay at a beautiful location
The house is in a quiet and secluded area away from the main road on a small road facing the sea.I was surprised how big the property is with fields behind and beautiful views to the front. If you like fishing there is a pier a short distance away also there is a lady called mary who you can hire to take you out on her boat to fish highly recommened.The house has all mod cons but who wants tv when you can watch the sun go down. If you want a week or more of peace you could not ask for a better place to stay cant recommend enough.

Lovely, peaceful, waterfront location next to a castle!
We stayed for over 3 weeks during Covid lockdown in January. The house was perfect for our needs with comfortable beds, two living spaces and a very well equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, and fireplace. The views from the master bedroom and front room were of the bay with breathtaking sunrises and sunsets. We saw rainbows out the back window several times a week. The house is next to Rockfleet castle and walking distance to the rail trail greenway for walking and biking. Ivor and Mary were gracious hosts leaving wood, homemade jam and provisions to get us started as well as allowing us to extend our stay and helping with printing documents.

Very enjoyable..great peaceful location
Overall we had a great stay and would come back. The communication was very good through the entire process. There's a bit of updating needed inside the house with peeling wallpaper and stuff and a bit of attention to the outside would go a long way and definitely a window cleaner but that wouldn't prevent us from coming back. Good value for money overall.

Excellent week in July spent at this property. The location is excellent (right beside the water). Plenty of space in the house, with good facilities (WiFi, good TV, large sitting room with fireplace, washing machine, dryer etc). The house is in need of some refurbishments, but overall a very comfortable stay. Check-in process was very easy and our host Mary was made sure we had everything we needed.

I just loved this house. It had everything that you need in a rental. My fav was the kitchen.......the retro style reminded me of my grandmother's house when I was a kid and the lovely open fire. Lovely quite area facing the sea but a short drive to all the places that you want to visit. Mary was a great host, checking if we needed anything. I'll definitely be back

Wir waren zu zweit für eine Woche in dem Cottage und haben uns dort sehr wohl gefühlt. Es mangelt an nichts. Bemerkenswert ist, dass wirklich an alles gedacht wurde. Es sind Informationen über die Gegend vorhanden und sämtliche Haushaltsgeräte, die man braucht. Einige Dinge sind nicht wirklich neu, sondern geradezu älter. Doch man merkt schnell, dass hier tatsächlich über die Bedürfnisse der Urlauber nachgedacht wurde. Sicherlich sollten die Rohre in der Einfahrt repariert werden und es wäre toll, wenn auch die Sicherung für den Strom nicht gerade im Dunkeln herausspringen würde. Besonders interessant ist sicherlich, dass man unglaublich gute Fotos vom Nachthimmel machen kann. Ich selbst habe einen solchen Himmel noch nie erlebt. Für uns wäre es sehr gut vorstellbar wieder zu kommen, da uns auch die Landschaft und die Gegend sehr gut gefallen haben.

Peaceful Location
A spacious, comfortable and well-equipped bungalow, in a peaceful, quiet lane off the main road. The waters of Clew Bay lapped the shoreline just across the lane. It was a pleasure watching the tide coming in and going out each day. The only noises were birdsong and the lapping of the water (- and no traffic noise!). Stunning views of the nearby hills and islands in the bay. Close enough to explore Newport, Westport, and Mallaranny, as well as the beautiful beaches of Achill Island. We enjoyed ourselves and were very well looked after.

A Travel Back in Time!
With Clew Bay of the Wild Atlantic in the front, the Pirate Queen, Grace O’Malley’s Rockfleet Castle to the side, and the serenity of the pastoral scene of cows and sheep grazing behind, what more could we hope for?! Absolutely charming in every sense. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Terrific cottage - exactly as promised
We stayed in the cottage for a week. It was comfortable, clean and ideally located for what we wanted. We were able to explore Achill Island, Newport, Westport and much of County Mayo. The kitchen was well appointed and the beds comfortable. Its location was quiet and very close to Newport and Mallaranny.
