Liked: Cleanliness
A little run down from the outside and internally in places but actually ok for an overnight stay.
Grand old building
Staff members particularly the breakfast staff were very friendly
Down side the mattress on my bed was as old as the building, I had springs sticking into me from all angles

Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
Generally OK, rooms smaller than advertiised, old and tired furnishings and decoration. Staff OK, except for a lady at the bar who for some feast took a dislike to me, was very awkward regarding a meal order, and in the end my wife and I left and had drinks and a meal in a nearby pub. I note another person’s review highlighted rudeness in staff. I’m

Shabby but charming
Room was quite basic and shabby, but seemed to be clean.
No facility for a 'Do not disturb' sign if you wanted to stay in the room. However, the room was not cleaned in between the two nights I was there which I though was a little strange.
Good supply of tea/ coffee etc and plenty of complimentary bathroom stuff.
Bed was very creaky and I kept waking myself up whenever I turned over! Mattress was a little too hard for me - but that's a personal preference.
Good blackout curtains.
Staff very pleasant and helpful whenever approached.
Was a little surprised that rooms were not easily accessible when you had heavy suitcases. There was a lift, but then still lots of stairs to climb to get to the room - would put me off staying again unless I could be assured of an accessible room. I'm not disabled as such, but find it a real struggle to try and lug a heavy case up stairs like that.
The room was very small very hot and the bed so small we took turns to sleep in it.
The first morning breakfast was fine. Day two we waited 45 minutes for breakfast to arrive. Day three my breakfast was cold and I couldn’t, eat it. Cold scrambled egg turns me off any offer of anything else.
Despite being a 3 star hotel it was clean, a little dated, pa basic breakfast and a good evening meal, my room wasn’t too expensive despite being a single person. Staff were nothing but helpful and polite
