Enjoyable stay
A lovely hotel full of character and excellent food, particularly the dinner menu in the evening. Staff were friendly and attentive. Continental breakfast was great, although a cooked option would top it off. The only very slight criticism would be the very early alarm call from a cockerel next door.

Disappointing
Disappointing! I rarely review a property as I stay at more than 100 hotels a year but this one was well below any standards. Most properties of this standard show carefully staged photos of the odd antique, a bunch of flowers, a well presented meal but not here. The photos on the Hotels.com listing give a realistic impression. Drab and uninviting. The property was built in the 1600's but it's like stepping back into the 80's. The first thing that hits you on arrival is the bouquet of stale beer throughout the ground floor. Rooms are quaint but the mattress, pillows and headboard smell antique too. Bathrooms are overcrowded with lukewarm water. Restaurant is uninspired verging on terrible with a menu which probably hasn't changed for 20 years. If you have no other accommodation choice it's bearable but otherwise, I would look elsewhere.

Ok.
Ok, good and bad. Very comfortable bed and room but bathroom floor wasn't too clean. No slip mat in bath if you wanted a shower and bath took ages to run. It says breakfast included but bear in mind it's a continental /buffet style which isn't my thing. Overall it wasn't bad but I wasn't happy at having to show id just because I paid cash.

Excellent value for money!
Beautiful old building with spacious, comfortable room. There are no lifts to upper floors, but that is understandable given the age of the building. Continental breakfast was very good. Dinner menu was good and service friendly and efficient. I recommend the carvery, which was served on Wednesday evening. All in all, we found this hotel to be excellent value for money. We would definitely go again.

A good base to explore central Wales from
A group of 4 of us stayed 2 nights while exploring mid Wales by motorbike. Good having off road parking, a good continental style buffet breakfast. The rooms were excellent and the whole place has character as you'd expect from a building with so much history behind it. Most of the staff were very friendly and helpful. However, having been out on our bikes since 9am, we arrived back to the hotel at 5.20pm and checked if the bar was still open (it was publicised as being open until 6pm) to which we were told that it was now closed but it could be opened up and he would serve us as we were hotel guests but we only had 5 minutes. On saying we'd be back down after a shower, we were once again told 'you have 5 minutes'!!! So we went across the road to the Royal Oak pub where we were made to feel very welcome by the landlady and her staff, had an excellent meal there and gave them quite a bit of business between the four of us. Clearly not all members of staff at the hotel where we stayed have yet done the Customer Service module. Overall though a very enjoyable stay and we would return again (but go to the pub across the road to eat and drink in the evenings).

Extortionate.
Having paid £130 for a room on a Sunday evening, we were very disappointed to receive an email stating the bar and restaurant closed at 6pm, therefore we would have to go off the premises to have dinner. The room was non refundable. The manager did offer to let us cancel but having booked through Expedia it was still non refundable. We also had family in the same situation in another room . The rooms are adequate and well equipped but the bed mattresses dreadfully uncomfortable and in both rooms squeaked and groaned with every movement…hence a terrible nights sleep. Most hosteleries that do not have facilities open reduce their price on those nights. With a disabled, 88 year old husband there is no way I would have booked, knowing we could not eat or drink on the premises . I think the charge of £130 was extortionate. The area from the chalets to the main building is a tip . It would only take a short time to clear the discarded furniture and general rubbish. For information… only continental breakfast of processed meats and one processed cheese are available. No rolls or bread, just toast.

The message was sent 8 day prior to arrival so you could have canceled free of charge. I did speak to you on the phone but you was adamant you was coming as this was booked with Tescos vouchers. The breakfast consists of meats, cheeses, fruit salad, yogurts, pastries, cereals, fruit juice, toast, coffee, tea, and fresh fruit

A Welcome and Enjoyable Break
We were made to feel welcome from the moment we stepped through the door. All the staff were friendly and continually asking if we needed anything. Martin, Marcus and Sasha especially deserve a mention as they went above and beyond in their efforts to make us comfortable and ensure that we enjoyed our time at the Radnorshire. Its a historic Grade ll Listed building of about almost 500 years and which is full of character and charm. Our room had original panelling and there is a huge Guest Lounge that is of similar setting, despite the dark panels on the walls the rooms are sunny and inviting. Our meal was excellent and the portions huge. My gammon was very tender not at all like the ones you get in chain restaurants. Our waitress Sasha was very polite and helpful ensuring that we had everything that we needed to enjoy our meal. Marcus the barman, came to our table in the dining room to ask my preferences so that he could make me a special cocktail which tasted wonderful. Lovely big gardens and an under dining area plus a childrens play area. Very quiet and a pleasant place to stay which we hope to visit again. Some people mentioned that it was only a continental breakfast but there was plenty to eat and we had a cooked meal at the Coffee House in Presteigne just up the road which did All Day Breakfast for just over £7.00 Its a great place to relax and enjoy a slower pace with plenty of country walks near by.

Stayed while visiting family. Checked out early as we couldn’t bare to stay any longer. Unfortunately the hotel needs some modernising and updating in parts. Seems to be catering more for locals than visitors/tourists. The place smells of cigarette smoke and cooking fat as soon as you enter the door. Room was clean, but even though the heating was on in our room the air was still cold. Curtains were hanging off the curtain rings with many not attached and were thin pale fabric letting so much light in. Water mark stains on the ceiling. Was looking forward to a cooked breakfast in the morning only to be told they no longer did one and nothing else available locally. Only continental, but never mentioned. Car park is exposed and no CCTV. Wouldn’t recommend or return unless changes. Such a shame as an historic and beautiful building with potential.

Overnight stay at the Radnorshire arms.
An extremely old building from the 1600's. We ate in the snug as the huge dining room was shut as would be difficult to heat. The food was average for dinner and my husband's expresso was cold. The staff were attentive throughout our stay. Bed comfortable and the room was huge with oak panelled walls. Bathroom snug as bath fitted into a small space. Very clean. Only one hand towel. There was a guest lounge on the first floor which we used and was comfortable. In the morning the breakfast was continental with good coffee. Toast made to order and cold meats/cheese. Various cereals and fruit plus yogurt. The dining room had been opened for breakfast. Check out 10 30am which was good not to rush.

Wonderful traditional inn.
Gorgeous old place, and just a lovely place to be. As with most old properties, arrangement of corridors and rooms is a bit haphazard, but small price to pay. Manager went over and above to make our stay as good as it could be. Fabulous old bar with lovely Wen beer.

Comfortable room, pleasant warm hotel. Bit of an olde worlde feel to it - pleasant staff, good service, nice surroundings, beautiful parts of the world - the place is a few hundred metres inside Wales. They only do a 'continental' breakfast, but it's a nice variety of things, good coffee, fresh fruit salad, good service.

Mixed experience
The garden rooms are sited up some steps from the main hotel and the car park up further steps still. I had thought this was level access so this came as quite a shock. The bathroom floor was uneven with lumps and dents in it and the room very dark which meant we had to be extra careful. Other than this the room was nice and the beds very comfortable. Breakfast was basic and was made up of prepacked pastries, cereal, ham and cheese, yoghurt and fruit. There was no bread other than toast for the ham and cheese. The staff were friendly and made us feel welcome. The house is beautiful with lots of history however the site looked unkempt in parts which was a shame.
