Terra Estreita Beach is a spacious sandy beach in front of the tiny fishing village of Santa Luzia on Tavira Island (Ilha de Tavira). Named for the narrow sandbar on which it sits, Terra Estreita Beach is loved for its secluded atmosphere and natural appeal. The beach is located within the Ria Formosa Natural Park and is home to interesting flora and fauna. Swim in the waters and relax on the soft golden sands of this beach with a laidback atmosphere.
Reach Terra Estreita’s main beach area via the timber boardwalks that span the sand dunes. Wander along the beach and pick your perfect spot. There’s plenty of room to spread out a towel. Alternatively, take advantage of the beach chairs and sun umbrellas available for rent. Due to its size and distance from major towns, Terra Estreita Beach has a relaxed vibe even in the peak of summer. Chill out on the sand and take in the sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean.
Go for a refreshing dip in the cool ocean waters, which are patrolled by lifeguards in the warmer months. Swim in the gentle waves or splash in the shallows with your kids. The beach has a concession stand with a range of watersports equipment available for rent. Get a canoe, paddleboard or catamaran and explore the pristine coastline. As part of the coastal nature reserve, Terra Estreita Beach has some magnificent wildlife. Spot seabirds flying overhead or admire the pretty plants growing in the delicate dunes.
If you get hungry, make your way to the little township of Santa Luzia, located directly behind the sandbar. Wander along the waterfront promenade and take your pick from restaurants showcasing the region’s fantastic seafood. Try local shellfish or traditional dishes, such as estopeta de atum (tuna salad).
Terra Estreita Beach is located on the narrow middle section of Ilha de Tavira. Reach the beach via boat from Santa Luzia. The beach has a bar, public restrooms and disability access however, these are only in operation during the summer months.
