1. Tivoli Gardens

Denmark is home to two of the oldest amusement parks in the world and one is located right in the center of the capital. 2. Nyhavn

The Nyhavn (New Harbor) area of Copenhagen dates back to the 17th century. By the early 1900s it had become a run-down waterfront, but Nyhavn is now a modern entertainment precinct full of popular restaurants. Stroll along the harbor’s edge to see some of the historic ships that still call the strait home. Then try local flavors in one of the many restaurants and bars.

3. Copenhagen Zoo

With all the big names from the animal kingdom present, the Copenhagen Zoo is a great outing for families. Watch exciting daily feedings and climb a panoramic observation tower at the zoo’s center. While animals now live in state-of-the-art enclosures, many of the original structures have been maintained, so it is still clear that you are in one of the oldest zoos in Europe.

4. Little Mermaid

Once upon a time, a small statue was built that would capture the heart of the residents of Copenhagen. Perched upon a rock in the main harbor, The Little Mermaid is there to welcome all guests to the Danish capital. This sculpture has become an icon for the city and is one of the most popular photo opportunities with visitors. It is not uncommon to find a small crowd surrounding it on a sunny day.

5. Rosenborg Castle

Rosenborg Castle operated as the royal residence from 1606 until 1710 and was the home of the then king, Christian IV. Today the castle, which is called Rosenborg Slot in Danish, is open to the public as a museum and houses the country’s Royal Collections. The park that surrounds the castle, Kings Gardens, is a popular destination for the people of Copenhagen to relax or play.

6. Copenhagen Opera House

Great expense was taken to build the grand Copenhagen Opera House. Visit the island of Holmen to see the 1,703-seat contemporary building designed by the Danish architect Henning Larsen. If you love watching performing arts, book tickets for theater, ballet, opera or concerts.

7. Oresund Bridge

The Oresund Bridge opened in 2000 to provide a non-stop travel link across the Oresund Strait. It is the largest combined road and rail bridge in Europe. Visit this award-winning bridge and tunnel to admire its architecture and to travel between Sweden and Denmark in less than 30 minutes.
