Spend some time in this peaceful park in the center of Bar Harbor to experience the village’s thriving community spirit and heritage landmarks.

The Village Green is an oasis of greenery in Bar Harbor, where locals and visitors come to enjoy the delightful surroundings and take part in fun-filled community events. Discover the Village Green’s long history as a public park when you admire its heritage cast-iron clock and charming bandstand. Watch the town band perform live music or peruse locally made arts and crafts at a market.

The 1.5-acre (0.6-hectare) space was once the estate of Bar Harbor’s Grand Central Hotel, but was put aside for community use after the hotel was torn down in 1899. The landmark ornate clock tower was installed in 1905 and has remained a town mascot ever since. Make your way along the diagonal footpaths that bisect the Village Green and enjoy views of its tree-studded borders. A quaint cobblestone pathway encircles the park’s fountain. Check out the park’s bandstand and catch a performance by the Bar Harbor Town Band on select summer nights.

Take a seat on one of the park benches or rest in the shade of the park’s gazebo. This picturesque spot is a great place to read, reflect or catch up with friends. In summer, you might see the Village Green’s Art Festival, which celebrates the talent of local artists and craftspeople. Check out work by local artists at any time of the year at the nearby galleries and gift stores.

Pack a picnic to enjoy on the Village Green’s lush lawns or treat yourself to a meal at one of the park’s surrounding cafés or restaurants. You’ll also find pubs, bars and ice cream parlors nearby. Browse the surrounding shops, boutiques and bookstores to pick up a keepsake for your visit to Bar Harbor. To the north of the Village Green, you’ll find the town’s Public Pier and beautiful views across the water.

The Village Green is located in the heart of Bar Harbor. It is a 4-minute walk to the town’s northern waterfront from the park. The Village Green has free Wi-Fi and a helpful information center where you can learn about seasonal events and local festivities being held in the park and the town.
