I recently had the pleasure of staying at this magnificent hotel and was thoroughly impressed by its grand yet cozy atmosphere. The staff were helpful and kind, but not overbearing. Despite my short stay, I had a great time. There was only one minor issue I found with the playlist in the bar, lounge and library areas. While the intention may have been good, the piano instrumental covers of current pop songs on repeat didn't quite hit the mark for me. I would have preferred some jazz instead, seems more suitable for the design of the hotel and for my intentions to sit by the fire and read all afternoons. Perhaps it was due to licensing restrictions? Overall, though, it was a wonderful experience, and I will definitely be returning.
The grounds and common areas are stunning and very luxurious. Dinner and breakfast were also very good. Staff were very welcoming and accommodating as well.
The hotel looks stunning from the outside and equally so when you step inside. However, the room was dated, dreary and small. I understand the old charm but it needed freshened up, especially the threadbare carpets. It was also extremely hot! When it came to breakfast, there was no staff around but there were hot buffet trays out so we started to help ourselves. Halfway along the line, a staff member came over and was rather rude about it not being self service. The food was ok but the coffee was terrible. We had to continually ask for things like toast which should have been offered in my opinion.
Great hotel with super comfortable rooms, great service from Robert and Jan.
Breakfast was well made and the dining room has a somewhat stately quality.
