"We loved this hotel, lovely rooms, nice bar and restaurant, helpful and friendly staff, lovely garden. Only downside was that our room wasn't serviced and we had to ask for fresh towels, when we mentioned this at reception we were told that we should have requested this but the check-in receptionist omitted to tell us that. For a 4-star hotel you should get fresh towels and a serviced room as standard. But otherwise excellent."

"This is a quaint old style Bed and Breakfast, without modern amenities There are many stairs to the rooms with multiple landings and no lift. Not suitable for the mobility impaired. The single room I had was small and very hot ( in the eaves and one small skylight), but there was a fan in the room that helped quite a bit. Staff very friendly and a good breakfast. Pleasant enough, even with the stairs. "

"Clean and comfortable, except too small for luggage stand so had to place suitcase on floor, which is difficult for older couple. Very good breakfast. Friendly, helpful staff. Excellent location."

"The staff on reception were first class. I was visiting my sister in hospital and found this hotel last minute. I booked for two nights, but only needed one. They assisted me in cancelling the second night and were very kind. I will be visiting York (from London) over the next few weeks and will now only book this hotel. My parents stayed in another hotel but will now stay here. "
