I didn't understand the grunge vibe at all. The property makes money renting studios, so it should be able to keep a clean, fresh environment for the hostel/hotel side. The sink leaked (114)' so the rud was wet. The capsule is cheap and lacking basic amenities like a locker and towel bar and luggage space. The window doesn't open for fresh air. The elevator was broken and the luggage room had no organized bins. My bad got tossred on the floor. At night it reeks of cigarettes smoke from other rooms. The toilets shower are are cleaned but nowhere to put a towel or clothes. I've stayed in hostel worldwide and they are all inexpensive but amazing comfortable. This place seems to say it's cheap so you get what you pay for.

Liked: Property conditions & facilities
Clean room, cool atmosphere, and staff were very nice
My first time staying at a hostel was better than expected but not as great as I had hoped for. This is great location to stay and see San Francisco on a budget and as a single traveler. Bus stops are within 2 blocks and markets and restaurants are a 1/2 block away.
Although very close to the proclaimed "dicey" Tenderloin district, the local unhoused residents were friendly and even helpful in finding my way around the neighborhood.
The staff did a great job at keeping common areas clean daily, (lounge, TV room, restrooms and showers). The sidewalk in front of the hotel was scrubbed with soap and water every morning; very nice as I found this area of San Francisco to be fairly dirty. I was aware of the location when I booked my stay so this as neither a surprise or a bother. Fresh and hot coffee and tea was available round the clock.
Easy check-in and out procedures. Access to the building was available 24/7, checking a bag with the front desk was very helpful as there is not much room in the units for more than a small bag with essentials that can be kept in the sleeping capsule.
- Easy and secure access to the building & common facilities.
- Showers and restrooms are clean and easily accessible.
- Great location for seeing San Francisco by walking or bus. (parking is a hassle anywhere in SF)
My only complaint is the bed was a thin mattress and not very comfortable and the room was stuffy, but reasonable considering I shared the room with 3 strangers.
i absolutely loved staying here. it was my first time in san francisco as a young solo female traveller and this place was the best hostel i stayed in by far. the staff are amazing and super down to earth and helpful, the events hosted are super fun , there’s so many places to hangout around the hotel, and the area is beautiful
Stayed in the capsule bed option and I'd do it again for the value! Was a little vary at first, but it's just other regular people trying to get by in a cheap way. Room was as expected for the price - can't knock it for giving me what I paid for! Note that all bathrooms are communal but they're all private and locked by deadbolt(/keycard for
The music decor was very cool. We stayed in the Metallica room. They had pictures of various San Francisco bands and a brief history about them. The shared bathroom was a different experience but not bad. The check in hostess was amazing and very friendly. There is live music downstairs to enjoy at no extra charge.
The Music City Hotel. This is a great concept & fun place to stay. It is really a hidden gem.
You are the star! Stay here with your crew while you are on tour! This place has alot to offer a traveling entertainer. It is also a fun alternative place to stay than a typical hostel.
There are a few different room options for singles, doubles & separate bunk style dorms for men & women. Plenty of showers. Everything is maintained nicely with daily cleaning service with coffee.
The building offers private studio space for rent & staged performances nightly. It is a music venue downstairs at night with a variety of entertainment. They have a bunch of music classes taught by experts. Live local or stay at the hotel while you take a class. The bar has a food menu and bar specials. The nightly entertainment is free for guests.
We had a great time and met alot of different musicians and travelers during our visit. It is in a great central location to get around the whole city
the people that keep the hotel clean do a great job. The front desk lacks care in bringing comfort and security to the hotel guest.I requested an extra blanket to place on top of my mattress the answer was an immediate NO response. I paid for 11 days, in advance, I got maybe 2 days of sleep. The mattress was 2 in. thick. I also lost my key to the lock for my locker that is provided in the room that I keep my diabetes medicines. The front desk does not have tools to break the lock so I called the fire dept. and they were quick to respond. Another Night someone destroyed the lounge area and smashed the TV with broken glass and broken security camera left lying on floor and furniture till the morning. The hotel has a number of tenant's that have been staying for several months which turns it into a SRO. They don't stray far from the hotel do to the drug supply in that neighborhood. Booking here was a mistake. This hotel is like a flea market version of a hard rock cafe.
The staff was amazing the property was unbelievable. One gentleman on staff younger gentleman didn't want to get rid of spoiled food and asked me to do the trash. Kristen was amazing. Surrounding area needed a little help but other than that the people were very welcoming the staff was very accommodating and musicians were very welcoming. The rooms were clean and the people were very hospitality. I enjoyed my time and would recommend this place to all musician lovers learning about music and culture. Thank you music City San Francisco.
I have lived in San Francisco for the past 30 years, and I know the city changes from block to block. The music city hotel is the perfect alternative to stay in the city on and off without paying lots of money. The area is very nice, many good restaurants and pubs. Night life as well, dispensaries and more. Overall, I love this place.
