"A lovely hotel with delicious food and a beautiful, peaceful setting. You should stay here.
We stayed in a little stone cottage separate from the hotel an easy 5-minute walk up the hill. It used to be the dog kennels. In fact, the low stone walls topped with iron fencing that served as the two outside pens of the kennel are still there, as are the doggie doors -- tho’ these are firmly closed. A pair of French doors open onto a very large walled garden, which we had to ourselves. It's the...

"Staff were very helpful and the breakfast was delicious. Also enjoyed dinner in the evening. Dog friendly, so our dog could have meals with us in the bar lounge."

"What a beautifully unique place to stay! We were in the Gamekeeper's bothy and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was clean and spacious and the wood stove kept us plenty warm! We never saw any red squirrels but I did see a beautiful jay that was so different from the blue jays we have in the US. I would stay here again in a minute!"

"Our room was beautiful and themed so a nice touch but we felt there wasn’t a relaxing seating area apart from outside but cold and windy and the bar so no cosy seats a quieter area to chill"

"Our 9-night stay in Scotland was incredibly relaxing and comfortable. We were so impressed by the thoughtful touches at Aulton Stables, including fresh fruit, milk, bread, eggs and chocolates on arrival. The bathroom was also well stocked with toiletries, including body wash, shampoo, conditioner and cotton pads.
The kitchen was fully equipped with high-quality appliances, including a toaster, kettle, hob and dishwasher. There’s no traditional oven, but the combination microwave/air fryer/oven...

"Delicious menu on offer, to supplement the great buffet. Enjoyed the decor/ambience of the breakfast room. Perfect location and the host gave spot-on nature, history and shopping suggestions. Loved our Pheasant Suite too. "

"Meals were ok except for the chicken pasta. I think that the chicken must have run over the pasta as I only found 3 extremely small pieces hidden in the plate."
"Lovely and quiet, stay in the chalet if you can, luxury . Food was good and tasty. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Plenty places to sit for food, pub, restaurant or function suit upstairs. Private parking."
"The small village of Tarland is very quiet, so we were surprised at just how good the Commercial Hotel is. I understand that a lot of walkers & cyclists use the hotel and I'm not surprised, as it is in beautiful surroundings and only 5 miles from Aboyne.
We received a very pleasant welcome, and our room was large, beautifully furnished and very quiet. Whilst we stayed for 2 nights, circumstances meant we only had breakfast although on our last evening, we saw that the restaurant was quite popular. Breakfast was special with a large choice of cook to order food and lots of tea or coffee. We will stay here again and recommend it to any one looking for a nice hotel in the area."
"We stayed in the Kennels apartment and it was ideal, the most dog friendly accommodation we have come across. The food in the restaurant was delicious, and the staff were lovely. Definitely going to stay again."
"We stayed in one of the offsite casa style rooms which was perfect for our family (we were parents travelling with two teenagers). Room was clean and had all we needed for our two night stay. We appreciated the afternoon scones and tea in the main hotel. We were surprised that our rooms didn’t have any housekeeping between our first and second nights so I’m not sure if that was part of the casa room service or not but our request for addition towels was taken care of quickly!"
"Great holiday in this lovely house. There is some road noise as per previous reviews, but we did not find this obtrusive. The house has everything you need and was well kitted out. We would recommend"
