The so-called breakfast in this hotel is nothing to write home about. This is the area that needs all the improvement in the world. Service is also very slow, and none of the waiters can explain the menu in English. The beds are comfy, though, and the local area quiet.
My friend and I stumbled upon the Afropolitan while searching for relatively stable wi-fi in order to work. It was the best in the area, the beds were ridiculously comfortable and the food in the restaurant was delicious! The best thing about our stay, however, was the attentive and helpful owner. He gave us his personal phone number to direct taxis to the hotel. He even sent two members of his staff to help us when my friend got suddenly ill and had to go to hospital. I couldnt recommend this hotel more and it would be my first choice when going back to Addis Ababa. Thank you for all your help!
This hotel was great! It was y first time to Africa and Ethioipa. The staff made me feel very welcomed, and were also very helpful with hints about the e\area, taxis, taking the local train...etc.
The food and drinks in the restaurant lounge were very good and affordable! The young man who runs the shuttle to and from the airport, is extra nice, and has great English! He gave me some great inside tips and was always super helpful and friendly...like most Ethiopians are, as I learned on my trip.
Overall, I enjoyed my stay here, and even after I took a local 2 day trip to Lalibella, I was very happy to come back to this hotel, as my home base, preparing for my flight back to the USA.
God bless the owner, and staff of this hotel as well as the wonderful people of Ethiopia!
Great hotel with friendly staff, clean rooms with air conditioning, elevator, and restaurant with excellent food. Five minute walk to the light rail system (very overcrowded light rail system) and a café and less than 10 minute walk to a cyber café. Slept well. Good location. Recommended.

Needs a reboot
This hotel is located on a dirt road that turned to a muddy mess when it rained. They have this bizarre policy of a "corkage fee"for anything you bring into your room even water. There are dogs,a lot of them, outside barking all night long They have signs at reception and in your room warning you to not stand on the toilet seat because if you break it there will be a $17 charge. There was no working phone to get a taxi to the airport at 5am. Strange breakfast, one coffee only. All around this place needs hotel management training.
