"I’m in my late 50’s and have no children. At my age and traveling alone I can tolerate a lot. But this property was not very well maintained.
I know they must respect the night sky and limit light pollution, so be warned when you walk the grounds at night bring a flashlight! They have zero-night lighting. Plus, driving around the campus was difficult because there is very little traffic signage giving proper direction. The parking striping has faded, and it was difficult to navigate the roads. They can place reflectors on the pavement that will illuminate the road path when the headlights shine on them. That would help illuminate the road but do not give off light pollution.
During breakfast no one at the restaurant was managing the buffet. They ran out of fruit, eggs and sausage. They also ran out of coffee during breakfast! That can’t happen. No one was bussing the tables. Half the tables were not available because of someone else’s dirty dishes.
I stayed in building six (6). The hallway smelled like a basement. The room was fine, but they need to clean the full-length mirror and pay attention to the those kind of details. The bathroom was also fine. The towels were old and were not soft.
The Tavern was nice. The Post Office was difficult to find. They had people driving around on golf carts. I’m not sure if it was a taxi service or not. No one offered me a lift.

"This review is for the Standard Room. In retrospect, I should have chosen the Deluxe Room, which looks nicer in the pictures. The location of the hotel is great right inside Death Valley National park. The room was clean, but older. The shower was very good and the air conditioner worked well. The small TV worked OK. The staff were all very helpful. The restaurant was convenient and pretty good. There are not a lot of restaurant choices inside the park. The mattress was very soft and after three days my back was aching. There is a refrigerator in the room, but no microwave or coffee maker. Overall, it was better than I expected for an older motel inside the park. "
Desert Retreat-Charming 2-bedroom house with a View
10/10 Excellent
"We had a great stay at the Desert Retreat. So very quiet and comfortable - beds were just right and communication with the host went smootly. The perfect place to unwind after a busy day in Death Valley. We like to cook and found all we needed to prepare meals and the outdoor grill was perfect. We travel to DV often and will book again on our next visit."
Stunning New House by Death Valley, Amazing Views!
10/10 Excellent
"The place is beautiful! We didn’t need a thing, kitchen had all the dishes etc that you’d need, the bathroom was gorgeous, and the beds super comfortable! It has heat and air (we needed heat because we were vacationing during cold spell). Being able to do a load of laundry after being on the road so long was a bonus also. We saw beautiful sunrises and sunsets from the patio and a night sky that was just stunning. Such a cool place! Super quiet too. I’d definitely go back. A good location if you’re visiting Death Valley near the Nevada side. "

"We were worried that we would not be able to find it since we were coming after. It was totally dark outside. Instructions were perfect and we had no trouble finding it. The home had everything we need plus more than we expected. The condiments were already there and we did not need to concern ourselves. Beds were comfortable kitchen was perfect. We made ourselves at home after a long day hiking. "
