Old meets new, design meets history.
The 18th-century thatched-roof colonist’s house underwent an extensive renovation and modernization in 2013. The focus was on preserving the house’s most striking historical elements and juxtaposing them with modern, contemporary design features. As a result, exposing the original half-timbered beams inside created a spacious, airy, and light-filled living area with an open gallery, at the centre of which the sturdy brick chimney dominates the space like a monolith. Classic furniture from the early ’70s now stands on light-colored wooden floorboards alongside many other lovingly chosen details, underscoring the home’s modern style while simultaneously creating a contrast with the historic design elements. In the front part of the living area, you’ll now find a stylish sofa set from Ligne Roset with a fireplace and TV; in the rear section is the open, modern designer kitchen with a practical cooking island and an elongated dining table. Adjacent to this are one of the two bedrooms, featuring a cosy double bed, and a spacious bathroom with a tub, shower, and toilet. All the windows on the ground floor are floor-to-ceiling and open onto the expansive wooden deck surrounding the house. The custom-built staircase—cleverly concealed behind the kitchen cabinetry—leads to the airy upper level, which features another private bedroom beyond the open gallery area.
The spacious terraces surrounding the house and the large, fully fenced property directly adjacent to the pine forest invite you to relax and soak up the sun. The rear exit of the property leads through the forest directly to a nearby hiking and nature trail and the Ahlbecker Seegrund, home to rare orchid meadows and protected animal species.
