MK’s well maintained house has a magical setting - but read on for an important warning. A row of majestic evergreens lines the front yard. In the back yard, you’ll find two well maintained wood planked pathways. One crosses a creek and leads to a bluff overlooking Lake Michigan, complete with wooden bench style seating. Magical and romantic. The other follows the creak down to a stretch of beach that’s a mix of sand and pebbles. We loved sitting on the beach at night as the sun set behind us, looking out at the vastness of the lake as darkness set in. Inside the house, the kitchen is well stocked with utensils, appliances and spices, and the cabinets and drawers are thoughtfully labeled to help you find everything quickly. The warning is that, as noted by a previous guest, swarms of mosquitoes surrounded both the front and rear entrances throughout our stay, both day and night, despite us plugging in a device the owner said would repel them (it didn’t) and spraying Raid we bought ourselves. There were so many bugs it was impossible to go in and out of the house without letting dozens inside, and we stopped using the deck after the first night. The owner told us it’s a seasonal issue, and he also promised us that he is now taking steps to address the problem, so we suggest inquiring before you book. The owner definitely felt bad, and he’s clearly worked hard to create a comfortable and beautiful vacation experience tor guests, but there was nothing he could do in the time of our stay so we left early and found a room in Ephraim for the final night of our trip. If the problem is addressed, or if you’re booking during a different season, this could be a perfect property for you.
